Bravo 18 AKM

Tactical-Life has a write up on the Bravo 18 AKM.  Does anyone have info on this gun?  I did the standard Google search and could find nothing on the company Bravo 18 Incorporated.  If you have a heads up, then send it this way!

  2. Sol, thanks for the linkback. We'll have the article up on our site after the test and evaluation hits newsstands (Magazine: Special Weapons for Military & Police)

  3. Resident Author! Come on buddy...you know in your heart of hearts you've always wanted to have this communist sweetheart stuck in your gun cabinet! But seriously....the AR is moving toward the AK in more ways than the AK is moving toward the AR. What do I mean? Its getting gas systems and wild cat rounds...6.8? 6.5? So if we take that and then look at the AK then what do you have? A robust weapon that lacks only increased accuracy for US shooters. From the looks of things Bravo 18 might have cracked the code....when I get one, I'll tell you about it!

Ben....not a problem...as a matter of fact I'm a fan of your site and publications. So expect more link-backs!

  4. The gas piston thing could be a whole dinner conversation. But you're right about the rounds. I call them "boutique rounds" because they are useless outside of the fun store and don't do anything the 5.56MM NATO and 7.62NATO can't do.

Like a told a ARFCOMer, if you come to my house with a 6.8SPC black rifle, I can't help you. But an AR-15 and we're in luck!

BTW, I'm BZOing my new TA31RCOM4 on my 6920 tomorrow! All American, now with Jesus numbers!!!

  5. I am not a blogger by any means, this is the first time I have ever posted a thing, but some of the comments I'm reading on line beg for clarification and are quite entertaining. So how about some clarification:
Left hand charge- Kalashnikov specifically stated he designed a left had charge to FORCE the shooter to remove his hand from the trigger in order to charge the weapon. This was an "added safety feature" for poorly trained personnel not highly trained operators. To remove your hand from the firing position during combat is insane, you have to be there to know that I guess. The left hand charge allows the operator to maintain a constant sight picture while running the action. In addition, eliminates the need to roll the rifle to the left in order to charge a right handle with a left hand. Try doing that with any SOPMOD optics. Let alone keep a sight picture. Good luck
Rails system- The six sided 10 and 2 o'clock rails have a specific purpose. For example: If you are approaching a target from 2 miles out you need a 3 to 4 power optic and or IR/thermal capability to mitigate threats at distance, but once you approach the target you need a red dot for CQB. the magnification optic with added capabilities goes on the top rail and is zeroed, the CQB dot sight is mounted and zeroed on the 10 or 2 o'clock rail. Once you reach the target and engage you simply roll the weapon slightly to the right and use to dot or iron back up site mounted on the 10. Being able to switch from 4 power enhanced vision to a dot instantly without having to come off or adjust the weapon is priceless in real world Operations. Not to mention it accepts all SOPMOD equipment, is free floated, wont flex when under pressure from a vertical grip and change the point of impact on your IR laser and optics zero, and never gets too hot to touch.
Mag well- Not needed? Have you ever tried to insert an ak mag while moving under fire? The AK has a flat hole with no reference points and was never designed for fast reloading. If it takes you 3 seconds to reload and me 2 seconds, your dead. Not to mention when you look down to find that hole, you have to come off the sights, lose your target, and are tripping on everything because you lost your peripherals also. Once you do reload you have to find the target, re-establish a firing position and then engage. Do you have life insurance?
Finger mag release- All American forces have been trained for 50 years to use the finger to eject the mag. Are you going to retrain them or change the mag release? Although I would love to have a contract to retrain everyone, don't think it will happen. Besides there is an added benefit; the shaped rod added to the mag release paddle "kicks" the mag out of the rifle, this allowing the operator to skip the mag extraction part of an AK reload. thus saving another second or 2 in gun fight. Another real word example: The enemy has to reach down and manually extract the empty mag, reach for a loaded one, insert it into a flat hole, come off the sight to reach over and charge the weapon or remove his firing hand from the weapon, and re-acquire me. Well he doesn't even get past grabbing a new mag! Why? My mag falls free while I'm grabbing then loading a new one without regard for the finding a hole, all while never coming of the gun or sight picture while charging and putting a few rounds in him. So all the above modifications saved me 2 or 3 seconds and a sight picture. Is it worth it? To an operator, hell yes! A 2 or 3 second advantage in a gunfight is life or death.

  7. Top cover- Yes the top cover is removable WITHOUT removing the rail and having to re-zero your optics. The bottom of the top rail is cut and contoured to allow the top cover to lift and slide to the rear as normal. Does the cover have 2 holes and you can see through it? YES, but if you can see thru it, it's because your safety is off and you are firing! At that point, cleanliness is the least of your conceals. Besides, every AK fires full of sand or mud or whatever, that is the beauty of the action! Is the design perfect? No, but 95% of operators will give some sand for the advantage of a left hand charge any day.
Bolt hold open- Moving the charging handle allows a bolt hold open to be utilized on the right side by modifying the safety lever/selector. Why not add this for that rare occasion there is a hard to clear malfunction.
Finger selector- Allows the operator to safety and select with the index finger without having to reach over the top of the rifle with the left hand or come off the sights.
Rail height- This is the lowest full length over the cover rail ever made that holds a zero. Too high, are you serious?
Accessories- Sights, optics, stocks, grips, this is not our business. If you want magpull, VLTOR, colt, ace, eotech, aimpoint, whatever. That is shooter preference, we will put whatever you want on it, every mission is different and the type of stock you use will not cost you your life!
Reputable manufacturer? HA, this one kills me, you're talking about several Veterans with combat experience using these weapons in the field of most every shit hole in the world and decades of experience building custom weapons for Operators. Might want to do your home work before making a statement like that.
Web site sucks- Ha, this one kills me too! YES it does suck! We build weapons, were not techies, never will be and don't really care about it. Do you want a warrior building your weapon or a computer science grad?
All and all we build weapons real operators know and appreciate and we build them to whatever specification is requested. We don't know the mission, we know the weapon. Our weapons are not designed for and will not benefit the target shooter or zombie slayer. For all those who serve and support those who do, thank you!
With all due respect and best regards
