Polish Rosomak

Jonathan (thanks bud) sent me an article (...read it here) about the Polish Rosomak.  My first impression was WTF is that!?

Well a quick Google search revealed it to be the Polish Patria 8X8.  Nicely done and with its service in Iraq and Afghanistan that means that this family of vehicles is as thoroughly battle tested as any 8X8 on the market.

IF the Marine Personnel Carrier tender survives (extremely doubtful in my opinion) then perhaps this is another vehicle that should be considered. then Lockheed Martin might have a winner on its hands.

  1. If you are just discovering the Rosomak(wolverine) shame on you. We worked with the Poles for 3months, Rosomak was significantly superior to our Strykers in every area. The Poles aren't afraid to kill a fly with a sledgehammer, so that helps. The Poles left their Rosomaks OD Green so the Taliban and Jihadist web site call the Rosomak "Green Death". Just what our Soldiers and Marines need.

  2. The PATRIA AMV is a great vehicle with decent orders. It's modularity should be a winner, seeing the myriad of different weapon fits available (AMOS, NEMO, 25-105mm...). All that and amphibious too.

Alternatively, there's the Italian Iveco SuperAv 8x8, which is more of an amphibious MPC able to carry a crew of 2+12.

Perhaps these are good candidates to take over some roles of both the EFV and MPC.

  3. you misunderstand Papi1960R...i very much know what the Patria AMV is.

i just never knew the Polish designation for it.

Marcase. i still like the idea of the MPC, i just don't know if we can afford it. as far as any 8X8 taking over the role of the EFV...doubtful in my opinion. they don't have the sea keeping capability needed to conduct amphibious assaults. they're amphibious with regard to inland bodies of water and short (make that extremely short) trips from amphibious ships that are operating CLOSE to shore.

  4. Actually I figured you knew what the Patria family of vehicles were. I've just seen them in action,up front and personally. Saw one take a RPG-9(we killed the RPG team so we know what they had) from 250meters, hit the drivers area square, did not penetrate. Rosomak with a 30mm is awesome. Now the Iveco SuperAV is what I would have IMHO, The EFV was a pipe dream, the Marines have shown in Iraq and Afghanistan that maint is not very good in the Corps. Keep it simple stupid. The EFV would be deadlined constantly. The Marines and Army should standardize their APCs and research together. The Iveco Freccia in A-stan has been outstanding also.
