The thing with the "heavy" body armor is that they're all designed to take the larger rounds at distance. He was 50 ft(?) away so the shock trauma would kill you anyway. What has me spinning is that, if I'm not mistaken, he used at least on ingredient that's common in high end holsters replacing kydex.
