I get tracked self propelled artillery. I get truck mounted self propelled artillery. But heavy 8x8 apc based self propelled artillery? The Brits have lost it...

You read the headline so you get my gripe.

This makes no sense and adds unnecessary cost without much benefit!  Tracks get you awesome cross country mobility for your artillery.  Trucks can get you excellent strategic mobility (for the most part).  But a heavy 8x8 apc based solution?

WTF!

The Brits have been here before and sadly they along with the USMC is going thru it now.

The Brits back in the day embarked on an all missile force because back in the day they assumed that manned aircraft were dead meat (The 1957 Defence White Paper).

They bet wrong back in the day and they're betting wrong today.  Futurist are always trumped by evolutionist.  

That is the sad fact of human's way of warfare.
