Marine Corps leadership says that the "Marine Corps Ethos" must remain. I don't see how. How can an entire organization pivot to becoming a supporting element, to totally embrace defense, logistics and becoming a sensor node for the joint force instead of an offensive force and retain any relation to its past thinking of assault/offense? The answer? It can't. This is bigger than just getting back to "our naval roots". This is the De-Evolution of the Marine Corps. This is a revision to a pre-WW2 model. Subjugated to the Navy and a voluntary lessening of our role in the nation's defense.
