No 1435 Flight Typhoon FGR4

Pictured is a 1435 Flight Typhoon FGR4 flying over West Falkland island during a routine training flight.

No 1435 Flight with their Typhoon FGR4's are currently based at Mount Pleasant

The most recent purpose-built airfield in the RAF, Mount Pleasant was opened in 1985 to establish a fighter and transport presence in the Islands. The RAF provides key elements of the forces that Headquarters British Forces South Atlantic Islands use to ensure the security of the Falklands, the South Sandwich Islands and South Georgia.
Not only through the air bridge from RAF Brize Norton to Ascension Island and onwards to the Falkland Islands, but also through deterrence patrols across the immense area between the islands.

Singapore is critically vulnerable...

When Singapore's defense leadership wakes up in the morning what are they thinking about?  Check this out from Senang Diri Blog (YOU SHOULD FOLLOW HIM!)...
Amazing isn't it?

Singapore island, aka the Little Red Dot, seen from the perspective of the Singapore Army's crack Red Lions Commando parachute display team. This photo mozaic was stitched together from a video that shows the commandos rehearsing for this evening's 53rd National Day celebrations in Singapore.

On the far right (east) of the landmass is Changi. To the left (west) is Jurong and Tuas, with Pandan Reservoir visible as the glistening patch near the top left. The green patch of the central catchment area with the freshwater reservoirs can also be seen.

From east to west, about 50km. North to south, a mere 22km.

You are looking at the most densely defended country in Southeast Asia. Within the field of view of the Red Lions, the city-state has the:
Most number of armoured fighting vehicles in Southeast Asia.

Heaviest concentration of tube and rocket artillery.

Biggest number of combat engineer bridging rafts.

Deepest underground ammunition depot.

Largest fleet of fast landing craft.

Extensive naval sealift.

More combat warplanes, hunter-killer submarines and MBT types than the neighbours.

Region's highest density of SAMs.

Neighbourhood's only counter rocket artillery and mortar (C-RAM) system.

Unrivalled military training arrangements globally.

And yet, critically vulnerable. See for yourself:
No strategic depth.

A currency backed by no natural resources.

Open border with the home shore minutes away from the world's busiest sea lane.

Exposed to artillery, special forces and rapid deployment parachute forces.

Lack of economic hinterland.

High density of ageing population.

Virtually no room to manoeuvre on home ground.

Heavy reliance on open access to sea and air trade routes.

Your back towards the sea any way you face.

Sleep well at night?

Many of us do, blissfully unaware of Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team units serving as the city-state's sentinels whose sensors watch above and beyond the border, and can see beyond the obvious.

We thank them all. :-)
When I first started reading this all I could think is here we go..another chest thumping rundown of weapon system Singapore has.

But then I read the rest and it became clear.

Singapore is "militarized" for a reason.  I never realized they were that exposed.

Saying City State is easy.

Realizing the implications of that are a totally different kettle of fish.

Now I understand how they're thinking.  Now I understand the rationale behind their defense purchases and policies.

The Marines put out two videos today.  This one and another.  This video is what I want to see!  The other?  I had to bleach my brain because it was mind numbing, wall pounding piece of cow shit on a cracker.

How could a service that was once claimed to have the best propaganda in the US military have fallen so far?

Enough of the virtue signalling!  Back to the warfighting!  More vids like this please!

Interservice Ground Combat Element games??? Should we do it? Is it worth it?

I've been intrigued by the games in Russia.  I've enjoyed taking a look at various armored vehicles running the course.

If we won't attend the Russian games could the Dept of Defense "steal the idea" and get something setup at NTC, 29 Palms or Ft Benning?

Could we send various Army and Marine Corps units?  Since we're going wheeled would the Canadians be interested?

If you haven't noticed we have Best Squad competitions...Best Sniper...Best Ranger etc...but when it comes to armored vehicles to include dismounted action we don't have a competition.

Waste of money you say?

Maybe.  The argument can definitely be made that it is, but competition builds esprit de corps/teamwork and the desire to WIN!

Nature is BRUTAL! (pic thread)

Thanks to Tim for the link!!!

What in God's name is this bug?  It freaking looks alien!

I think we all know how this ended.  That Bison is the running dead.

A couple of things occured to me.  The first is that even in urban areas we are probably all missing some very brutal and vicious fights for survival.  The next is that while we're all aware of the big reptiles and predatory mammals as being especially deadly when it comes to their prey animals, I at least didn't account for birds.

That last pic is as rough as any and you have to wonder how many cats have ended up being bird food.

Mi-26T2V prepares for first flight!

via Defense Aerospace.
Russian Helicopters Plans to begin test flights of the new, modernized variant of the Mil Mi-26 helicopter and fly its new helicopter to the Army 2018 exhibition near Moscow by the end of the month. Following the manufacturer’s flight tests the helicopter will be handed over to the government for operational tests. It will be the heaviest variant of the Mi-26 to be operated by the Russian forces. “Mi-26T2V will be even more efficient and reliable, even when used in bad weather and difficult terrain,” said Russian Helicopters CEO Andrey Boginsky.

The Mi-26T2 is the current variant, has a maximum takeoff weight of 56,000 kg (112,000 lbs), with payloads up to 20 tons (40,000 lbs.) The new helicopter will offer the same performance. As a modernized version it will bring earlier models to the T2 standard. The Mi-26 is operated by a crew of five but the improvements introduced by the BREO-26 avionics suite enables most missions to reduce the to crew to 2-3 persons.

Thanks to the Mighty Zuk for the pic!

Read the open source on that turret and tell me you're not impressed.  Think about it for just over 10 seconds and tell me that the USMC shouldn't be testing it for placement on the ACV!

The vehicle to watch in the Israeli arsenal?  The Eitan.  Once they've successfully integrated this system on it (and can document the test results), then even the US Army should consider tossing that monstrously large contraption they have setup on Strykers and at least look at this possible solution!
