Why a Forward‐Deployed Military Posture Is Unnecessary, Outdated, and Dangerous (CATO Institute 2017)

Note. I've long been a critic of forward basing of our forces. I don't believe it deters aggression. Check out the video below and read the article here.

The part that caught my attention?
America’s forward‐deployed posture is not intended to protect the nation from direct attack. Rather, its goal is to provide security for other states and protect against contingencies that, for the most part, would not involve vital U.S. interests.

Make sure to read the whole thing.

Too many CIA Informants are being captured, killed or compromised...

I think its a culture thing. We (Americans) are loud, stick out like sore thumbs, dress in anything but the local garb (we can't even blend in when it comes to different regions of our own country) and did I say loud? Additionally (again a culture thing), we push the fighting for freedom thing hard but I have to wonder how many of these informants are true believers in the American way (ie...we can help them achieve their goals inside their country) or is it simply a cash grab to make it to the West?

Maybe we need a division of labor with MI-6. We handle the technical intel stuff thru the NSA, DIA, and CIA. They handle the man in the loop stuff. Doing that on the ground James Bond shit (chill out CIA Direct Action guys...you still get to be pipe hitters but they seemingly handle of informants better...at least from the outside).
