China's DF-17 Hypersonic Missile is real....

Thought that news of this missile was all bluster.  Another attempt to ramp up budgets.

Unfortunately I was wrong.

I wonder what an independent assessment of Chinese military capabilities reveal?  I thought we had 2025 to 2030 to get it together before they overtook us.

Could we already be behind?

CDC admits that CANNABIS VAPING, not Nicotine Vaping responsible for rash of deaths...

via MetroTimes.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finally acknowledged Friday that a vast majority of the mysterious, vaping-related lung illnesses are linked to cannabis products — not nicotine.

The outbreak has confused consumers, largely because politicians have placed most of the attention on vaping nicotine. On Sept. 4, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was the first to announce a ban on flavored nicotine vaping, while remaining silent on tainted, black market cannabis oils that are vaped. Massachusetts and New York followed with their own bans on vaping.

On Friday, the CDC announced that the lung illness has shown no sign of abating, sickening 806 people in 46 states and killing 13. Of the patients who reported what product they vaped, only 16% said they only used nicotine. But health officials say that number is likely lower because people are reluctant to admit using cannabis.
Story here.

Drink this in.  Don't shy away from it but take a good look at what we have become.

We suddenly see a rash of deaths (minor...extremely minor when you're looking at the population of the US) and advocates against a particular issue, in this case vaping go overboard.

Even worse we see politicians that one would assume have access to FULL information on this subject (hell I did but got shouted down by the easily manipulated on this blog) jumped on the "we have to do something" bandwagon and started restricting LEGAL vaping.

The tragic thing?  Everyday citizens accepted what they were being told about LEGAL vaping and readily agreed with the interest groups, the reactionary politicians and in short order the MOB got their way.

The sad reality?

It was as I and others said.  It was about ILLEGAL CANNABIS VAPING, and nothing to do with LEGAL NICOTINE VAPING.

This is why a constitutional REPUBLIC is a superior system and trounces a DEMOCRACY that is subject to the fickle whims of the MOB.

The problem that the US has?

So called "science" is being manipulated to fit certain narratives instead of looking at whatever issue honestly.

The President of the United States, the Governors of a few states and the Mob put bans into effect, affected thousands if not millions of people's lives while they had access to the REAL INFO.

If we allow attacks on fringe groups because "we need to do something", or because it's a "cause" being fought by certain interest groups or because we just don't like it then we're in trouble.

Ladies and Gentlemen we're in trouble.

Is this an over the top analogy?  I don't think so.  I believe we're headed down a very dangerous slippery slope.

BAE Amphibious Combat Vehicle Update Vid...

Highlights of this vid?

Swift gives us the rationale for the ACV that was seen at Modern Day Marine in Quantico.  Additionally (and I'm not sure but guessing) we get a glimpse of the mobility testing in Mississippi that verified the performance of the vehicle in swampy terrain.

I continue to be impressed by this rig.

Mobility (if what we're being told is true), protection levels and planned firepower makes this the most formidable AMPHIBIOUS assault vehicle in the world.

Sidenote.  Lov this rig and I KNOW that any vehicle can get bogged down (to include tracked vehicles) but I just can't get over the old tracks versus wheels thinking when it comes to mobility over broken terrain.

Pics of Houthi Rebels destroying a Saudi Motorized Unit...

Saw the discussion but I was at the work and couldn't post about it.  I know most here already knew this news but I had only read the bits and pieces of the story ... I didn't grasp the full failure that the Saudis have suffered.

One thing I find striking and obvious.

Motorized units continue to be vulnerable to infantry.

F-35 testing delayed...AGAIN!

Thanks to Stan for the link!

via Military.com
The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter will not complete its already-delayed formal operational test phase this fall because of a setback in the testing process, according to a source close to the program.

While the F-35 Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) was supposed to be complete by late summer, a source with knowledge of its development said the testing is still incomplete due to an unfinished phase known as the Joint Simulation Environment.

The JSE simulations project characteristics such as weather, geography and range, allowing test pilots to prove the aircraft's "full capabilities against the full range of required threats and scenarios," according to a 2015 Director, Operational Test & Evaluation (DOT&E) report.

The F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO), in coordination with the Defense Department, confirmed that the Joint Simulation Environment testing phase is still being worked through, but could not provide a timeline for its completion.
Story here.

No conspiracy theory, I'm just gonna ask you to use common sense.  They've been gearing up for this final hurdle for YEARS.

Suddenly the JSE simulations aren't ready to go?

Do you really believe that?

You're telling me this is a legit problem and they aren't tinkering with the simulation to assure the success of the airplane?

We don't have visibility so none of us can actually be sure what's going on, but no one can deny that this looks bad.  Bad for a program that has nothing but bad happening over and over and over again...

MILREM's Themis Unmanned Ground Vehicles in Mali

Wow.  First congrats to Estonia Ministry Of Defense for getting these into the field, but second.  Wow.  That puppy is big!  Its the size of an ATV.  I know Squad Support Vehicles are all the rage but damn!  Unless the price point is beyond attractive then we're looking at a vehicle that rivals a manned vehicles size, carry ability is probably similar and so is potential weapons load outs.

I want to be convinced that these UGVs are worth the effort (the Squad Support Vehicle Variants) but this seems a rather exotic piece of kit just to haul around some gear.

As things currently stand I think this is a quick work around to the age old problem that no one wants to tackle...Soldiers load and how to make it workable.  If we solve the loadout, without it being constantly increased then we'll be cooking with gas.

How do we do that?  Probably by following a true light infantry model.  It will require toughening up.  Moving light.  Freezing at night.  That old skool Ranger stuff that not even the Rangers follow anymore.

Israeli Defense Force Eitan 8x8 Wheeled IFV (pics)...

I stand by my previous statement.  The Eitan is the most impressive 8x8 on the market today, not the Boxer.  It is the new benchmark in protection, mobility and firepower for the entire class.  If the USMC didn't need it's rigs to swim I'd be pounding on the Commandant's desk demanding that we give these a serious look.
