You believe the Ukrainian Defense Force is counterattacking by itself?

I've been watching new coverage of the war and I'm just flabbergasted.

The hit on those Russian ships.

Do you think the Ukrainians did that solo?  Ain't no way in hell. They got big time help from some country in NATO.  Don't waste your time telling me otherwise. It's freaking obvious.

The gains they've made on the ground?  That's been supported too.

Which brings me to this.

Biden is jacking up the sanctions.  Made a trip to Europe to "steady" the allies.

Let's ignore the damage that is being done to the global economy (and that damage will be most felt in the Middle East and Africa soon enough which will open up a whole new can of "oh shit" on the world), and focus on the LEGALITY of it all, and the ramifications of it.

If you're in ANY country on the face of the earth could you be a leader and not take note of this?

If you were a RESPONSIBLE LEADER of any nation on the face of the earth would you not take measures to insulate yourself from this type of damage?

Without a doubt the Chinese are.

When it comes to seizures of the "oligarchs" yachts/property and other items.  If you had a sizeable income (define that as you will) would you NOT observe what's going on and take steps to insulate yourself from this type of action by ANY govt entity?

I hear the cheering for the sanctions and other actions but I believe they'll turn to jeers once the blowback to this activity is finally felt by even the little guy (and the little guy is feeling it...from food, to gas, to everything in-between).

But let me end this with a question.

What is the end goal?

Is it to simply get Russia to stop the fighting?

For those that don't like looking at Russian intentions, views etc...I ask you to put that in your back pocket for a second and try and look at it from their chair.

They started a war to ensure a buffer remained between them and NATO...a NATO that has been steadily expanding.

Once this "special military operation" was started (we still don't know their objectives) they suddenly ran not into Ukrainian defense but found themselves in a proxy war AGAINST NATO!

Additionally they now find themselves locked not only into a kinetic war against NATO, which is using Ukraine as a proxy, but Biden has also launched an economic war which appears designed to cripple their country to such an extent that it evaporates just like the former USSR.

Looking at this fight from their point of view this has gone from a special military operation into a fight for the very survival of their nation.

We lack communications with them.

They're pushed into a corner and their national survival is at stake.

I once thought the possibility of chemical or nuclear weapons use was a fantasy.

I don't think so anymore.

I repeat what I said.

From their point of view this fight is turning into a fight for national survival.

My point after this long rant?

The US State Dept needs to get off its ass (use back channels..the French, Israelis, Turks, Indians..HELL EVEN THE CHINESE!!!) and find someway to talk to the Russians before this thing spirals.  Trust me.  We're approaching a point where this thing will get out of control

This dude covered this pretty well. No need to reinvent the wheel. Go here to check it out.

French Rapid Reaction Corps @ Cold Response 22

Did you know that even the Coastal Rangers now have more of a land combat focus than the US Marines. This new Marine Corps is a shadow of its former self. It continues to hail its past while it forges a future that is unrecognizable (Berger should really do us a favor and rename the thing...better cased colors than disgraced colors).

If you're interested in following American volunteers in Ukraine you should follow Nolan Peterson...

He's got quite a bit up about Americans (and others) volunteering in Ukraine. Give it a look....

NATO: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has created a new reality for our security. We must continue to stand strong together in NATO to protect and defend all Allies

Interesting. When Trump was shouting that NATO members should spend the 2% on defense while in office he was the devil himself.

When I stated that NATO has become a millstone around the neck of America I was shouted down. Now? An invasion of Ukraine WITH NO INDICATION THAT RUSSIA HAS PLANS TO GO FURTHER has everyone singing together in the chorus and stating how we should "stand together".

Amusing at best. Fear, even unfounded fear, is a great motivator.

Then and Now: Apollo to Artemis

Evolution is underrated. If we had continued to evolve Apollo instead of going on a tangent with the Shuttle we'd already be on Mars (along with a little vision from political leadership)

There was an S-3 Viking "Air Defense" Variant?

Well that old myth is dead. I thought tornadoes didn't hit big cities...I was wrong...

Hope no one is hurt but New Orleans is just "different". Wouldn't miss it.

Gun violence epidemic? Naw, we have a fat ass epidemic

Ya know why the covid "mess" was so infuriating? Because for the MOST part, if you had pre-existing conditions the disease was a killer. Obesity was a pre-existing condition! The entire population was placed on house arrest because for the MOST part people made STUPID choices when it came to exercise and diet!

Dr. Fauci will never tell you that though.

A major problem in America?

No one wants to take responsibility for even the basics...LIKE ENSURING your own health and well being!

Now excuse me.  I'm going lift.

Jeopardizing national security: What is happening to our Marine Corps?

Thanks to CoffeeJoeJava for the link!
Drink it in boys.  This is what leadership looks like, not the stuff you're seeing at HQMC now!

via Marine Corps Times
Sixty-six years later, I still consider myself a United States Marine. But I’m saddened beyond belief knowing that our Marine Corps soon will no longer be the ready combined-arms force that our nation has long depended upon when its interests were threatened.

It will be a force shorn of all its tanks and 76% of its cannon artillery, and with 41% fewer Marines in its infantry battalions. To make the situation even worse, there will be 33% fewer aircraft available to support riflemen on the ground.

These divestures were and are being made to provide the resources for three Marine littoral regiments, designed to support naval campaigns for sea denial and sea control by firing anti-ship missiles.

So, the Marine Corps will trade its combined-arms flexibility for a very specialized mission that the U.S. Army already can provide in greater numbers than the Marine Corps ever will.

STORY HERE!  READ IT ALL!!

I've been shouting this from the rooftops but NO ONE would listen.

Hopefully they will now.

The 25th ID and I predict soon the 2nd ID will provide more land based anti-ship missiles than the entire Marine Corps could muster.

Oh and they'll do that while retaining their capability to perform sustained ground combat.

I proposed a reinforced MEU.  If it had to include anti-ship missiles then so be it but we would still be a force that was capable of conducting missions across the spectrum.

WE WOULD STILL BE A FORCE IN READINESS.

Berger's plan amounts to: ONE FOE, ONE REGION--ready for only a limited role in a fight against that one foe, in that one region!

That is not the United States Marine Corps.  The abomination that he is building IS UNRECOGNIZABLE.

It is a new entity that does not deserve the name MARINE CORPS!

Berger and his band of sycophants labored hard and produced a steaming pile of shit that will have no utility in the fights coming OR IN THE BIG FIGHT that is on the horizon.

The Marine Corps wasn't torn apart from the outside.  It was torn apart by wannabe reformers that had no clue except for wanting to transform the force instead of evolve it.
