Do you remember the "SIR, WHO AM I?" open letter to the commandant? It was all a setup...they ran a psyops on us all...

Berger was and is a horrible change agent.  But even worse? He played games with us instead of coming at those he led straight on.

It was all bullshit and this "Sir Who Am I" letter was the first indication but I missed it and I'm betting so did many others.

Read the entire thing here, but check out this portion...

Instead, if the Corps is naval in purpose, then our paradigm will radically shift as the mission of naval forces, reinforced again recently by the undersecretary of the Navy, is sea control tied directly to protect U.S. interests and those of our allies and partners. Infantry – with either 13 or 15 marines per legacy rifle squad with no ability to affect enemy fleets – gives way to new “infantry” and new “artillery” with anti-ship neutralization and destruction capabilities – whether land-, air-, or sea-based – as our organizing principle. We can develop amphibious concepts for the missile-age that do not require 30 amphibious ships (plus numerous surface combatants and auxiliaries, transporting two Marine Expeditionary Brigades), to loiter well within the enemy weapons engagement zone to land marines ashore while we provide “protection” to our Navy shipmates. We can stop creating redundant capabilities – such as MARFORCYBER or MARSOC – that other services provide the joint force. Namely, we can get back to the majority of our Title 10 mandate instead of organizing around the catch-all “…such other duties as the President may direct.”

Notice the part that I put in bold.

Berger was aiming further than I thought.  What backed him down is beyond me but be advised tribe.

We were all played.

Lt. Gen. Berger, please choose a single core attribute: a distributed littoral force, a sea control/denial force, a general purpose force, a small wars force, a heavy mech force, etc. Next, name two or three distinguishing attributes that – in accordance with the National Defense Strategy – differentiate the Corps from the other services and their roles in the National Defense Strategy.

China is already working to block Force Design 2030

Thanks to Tom for the link!

Three years ago, Xu Changyu made his first attempt to get his hands on an island in the South Pacific. The vice-president of China Sam Enterprise Group quietly negotiated a 75-year lease on Tulagi, an islet with a natural deepwater harbour in the Solomon Islands.

The deal was blocked after the attorney-general declared it unlawful, but not without triggering suspicion among the public and the country’s traditional western allies that China was looking to build a military base in a spot that once hosted the British, Japanese and US navies.

Xu would be back. When Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare visited China in October 2019, he accompanied Sogavare during the entire trip. In April 2020, he registered China Sam, which produces weapons and has connections with China’s defence ministry, as a foreign investor in the Solomon Islands, removing one of the legal hurdles that derailed the first deal.

Five months later, his company was involved in an even bolder proposal. The premier of another Solomon Islands province received a letter, which purported to be from AVIC International Project Engineering, a subsidiary of a Chinese state aerospace and defence group. The letter said AVIC and China Sam Enterprise Group intended to study “opportunities to develop naval and infrastructure projects on leased land for the People’s Liberation Army Navy [ . . . ] with exclusive rights for 75 years”.

Story here

They're looking to extend their A2/AD bubble.  For better or worse the US Navy is gonna have to fight the Chinese Navy in blue water and they're gonna have to win.

They better get ALOT harder, FAST!

US Army's I Corps gearing up for battle in the Indo-Pacific

The 25th ID hasn't been doing all that water work for nothing! I didn't post about here but John F. Schmitt was right (read it here)...The Marine Corps is marching to irrelevance...

The Marines should kill Force Design 2030 and return to what the nation needs them to be — a combined-arms force in readiness, primed for any fight.

Washington says ok to Slovakian Migs, will send Mi-17s...this thing could spiral. Is that the goal?

I wonder what the strategy is in Washington with regard to the Ukraine crisis.

I saw a report that Washington said yes to Slovakian Migs to Ukraine and Dan is saying they're gonna send Mi-17s.

Other EU/NATO countries are sending armored vehicles.

What is the strategy?

Has anyone noticed that this is turning into more than a war of survival for Ukraine?

No.  Let me be clear.  Are we trying to use Ukraine to push Russia into a war for its survival?

Why do I even ask?

Because I see no diplomatic work being done by the US State Dept. NONE!  I have seen various European leaders try one on one talks with Putin but he's made it clear that he will only deal with Biden.

So what does Biden do?  Sound like a "mean girl" and hurls insults.

If you can see a strategy here I'd love to know what it is.  Meanwhile Ukraine continues to be ravaged, the Russians keep pushing and no one is talking to try and end this thing.

Note.  If you believe Putin is evil and want Ukraine to destroy Russia and seize back all its territory then be advised that this war will run boiling hot for probably 4 or more years.  The fact that we have seen so little effort at diplomacy is stunning.  It would seem to me that a resolution to this war as soon as possible is in the best interest of the world.  Any battlefield solution...favorable to Russia or Ukraine will just lead to an extended conflict.  Diplomacy is the only way to stabilize the global economy and we need it quick fast and in a hurry.

Berger just MIGHT be right but he was the wrong man to lead this change.

Circling back to the War On The Rocks article.  Read it here. One statement stands out (well many stood out and I'll get to them eventually...this is the best article on Force Design 2030 I've read and this bubba has the guts to lay it all out...UNLIKE HQMC).

Since the commandant appears to have lost the support of a large cadre of retired Marine generals, something clearly went off the rails.

That is an understatement from hell.

I've said it once and I'll say it again.  Getting buy in from the people you lead is Change Agent 101 stuff.

As a matter of fact when it comes to courses that teach being a Change Agent and list the do's and don'ts of the thing, your boy Berger has committed just about every DON'T there is!

No one is saying it but his biggest problem is that he's started wholesale change and has absolutely no idea what the end state of his change will be.

His focus on stand-in-forces has shook the Corps to its foundation and the sudden reversal of talking points ring hollow.

The USMC will continue to be a force in readiness?  We're still gonna be a crisis response force? The USMC isn't building its force for one region, one foe?

The new talk all sounds like lies.

Which leads me to this.  Berger MIGHT beat back the assault of the Generals but he will still fail. Inflation.  Budget issues.  Navy priorities. His change will be still born and incomplete.  He will face the worst of both worlds.  He destroyed the Marine Corps but can't build his desired force.

Better to case the colors.

Rebrand the thing...The Marine Littoral Force and be done with it.

Are we reaching a point where our own war stocks are getting critically short if another war breaks out?

Can we continue to donate so much weaponry to Ukraine without assuming risk?

5yrs to replace our inventory of Stingers?  1/3rd of our entire stock of Javelin missiles?

That's huge and the end is nowhere in sight.

How long can we continue at this pace before we endanger our own forces if fighting were to break out somewhere in the world?

China has to be watching.  Iran too.  Things would get real sporting if we saw a major Middle Eastern war...say around Jan of 2023?!

Former British Marine surrendered to Russia in Mariupol.

Read the entire Tweet thread.  This guy has had an interesting arc. Supposedly he fought with the YPG.  Did they go against Russians in Syria?

Would the Russians turn him over to the Turks?  That would be a rough ride if they did.

Gonna try and keep an eye on this guy.

Germany is about to get smashed by its energy policy...

Anytime you have officials in an industry give as many warnings as the energy sector in Germany has given to the public then you can pretty much guarantee that the thing they're warning about is a "done deal".

Energy is about to smash Germany and it might take Europe down with it.

If you thought that only the US would face a recession you were thinking too small.

I warned ya!

We're looking at a global recession.  How deep?  I have no idea, but the pain is coming.

Congrats.

Many in this audience wanted it and now you get it.  Hit me up around Christmas and tell me how much you love the LUDICROUS sanctions that we imposed that will not only crush Russia but damn near torpedo the world economy.

Some of you people really need to do a little thinking.  It ain't that hard.

About those chemical attacks in Mariupol...

I've read about the use of chemical attacks in Mariupol.  Want the quick and dirty?

AZOV is making the claim.

The news media is calling them far right.  That's not quite accurate.

They're freaking Nazis.

You know it.  I know it.  The news media knows it.

This is what I mean about the Western public needing more visibility on this thing.

Additionally I'm also hearing that it was phosphorus from a drone. That changes things dramatically.  Its used to mark targets.

With regard to the war in Ukraine we're in the land of mirrors.  We don't know what we're looking at and we're being steered toward conclusions simply on the basis of NOTHING!

Short rant. Everyone is so focused on the war in Ukraine that you're missing the economic danger that is just over the hill

I have gone from amused to just short of raging.

The propaganda, aided by US media, is in full press mode about the war in Ukraine.

If you follow this blog then you know that I've posted a few articles that talk about the economic danger that's just over the hill and headed our way fast.

The war in Ukraine will be what it will be.

But if you think that the war in Ukraine is the threat to world order then you're smoking crack.

From the Pacific, to S. America, over to Africa and the Middle East the world is turning into a powder keg.  Correction.  It's becoming an even bigger powder keg than it was before.

We haven't seen the bad stuff yet but we could be looking at horror upon horror that will touch the West in ways that the Ukraine conflict never will.

Govts will be toppled and replaced by radicals.  Starvation will become even more wide spread.  Energy prices will consume HUGE portions of the average persons budget.  Food prices will alter us in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago.

All that and I haven't taken into account a surge in covid...AGAIN!

Many have become so inflamed and so preoccupied with Ukraine that they're missing the real danger that is coming at us all.

Watch Ukraine if you must (I do ... even though I don't think its our fight), but ALSO watch the world economy.

Economic conditions can spark wars and we're seeing horrible economic conditions.

The Motor Rifle (BTR) squad

Question. Have you ever seen the same for a Chinese motorized unit? Have you seen something that covers the Chinese version of the MEU? ARG? CBG? This is the problem! We have the tick tock for Russian forces and suspected capabilities of most of their weapon systems are widely and easily available. The same can't be said of Chinese systems. THAT IS WHY THE TILT TO THE PACIFIC IS A JOKE!
