We're gonna need a force capable of seizing land in the Pacific. Thank God the 25th ID is assuming that abandoned mission.
What purpose will the Stand In Force serve in their assault? Logistics support? Land side defense against enemy ships? Will they even serve a limited role? Got it! Marine Air will serve as Army UBER...unless the Army buys the V-280 that is!
Marines Committed to New Force Design, Despite Criticism From Retired Generals + Thoughts on Gen Heckl's interview
So the Marine Corps is all in on Force Design 2030. This will make the Marine Corps a TOTALLY defensive organization with no ability to project power against even the most primitive armies (note the Houthis against the Saudis).
Additionally it will make the Corps into a one region, one foe organization when it can reliably be predicted that we will see conflict in other regions.
Of course the Marines will send aviation assets to assist in those fights but it will further diminish the Marine Corps role in the nation's defense (as we're seeing in Africa...Marine Air is serving as aerial UBER to Army warfighters).
But back to Heckl's interview.
1. Dude lists a host of issues that we'll get to but NOT ONCE did he address any of the critiques that this concept has received.
2. They have started on a "transformation" and have no idea what the force will look like once they're done. They have divested the Corps of Marines and equipment and HAVE NOT completed their experiments!
3. There are so many showstoppers to this plan that I can't believe ANY commandant would start this transformation. They have developed a concept and not worked out logistics. If logistics are difficult then you KNOW they haven't worked out how to handle casualties. They continue to reach to participate in the undersea battle. They talk about the NMESIS missile as if the distance it can cover is actually capable of being a deterrent to Chinese aggression.
4. Much talk was made of reassuring allies. I can't think of any nation in the Pacific (well outside of Japan & Australia) that actually have terrible relations with China. They might not be "pals" but no one is outwardly hostile. Read more about the showstopper called DIPLOMACY here.
5. I got no indication that the Navy/Marines had worked out the issues with the LAW. That alone will be problematic. Even more problematic (and deservedly so) is what happens to big deck amphibs. The Marines are practically abandoning them...so the Navy is too.

I personally think Force Design 2030 remains HOT GARBAGE. I think that Berger was NOT the man to lead this effort, that he is a terrible change agent and that this whole effort has become his Holy Grail.
I seriously believe that if at this point experiments showed that this concept is invalid, that he would continue out of spite.
But listen to the general. If you believe what he's selling then good on you. You have the faith of a true zealot.

Riddle me this. How can we send over 40 billion dollars worth of aid to Ukraine at the blink of an eye, have the International Red Cross zooming in to aid the citizens of Mariupol, have people of all kinds bombarding websites with calls for vengeance....
Yet this is going unseen, unnoticed and unaided?
I have theories but I ask you instead.
We sent 1/3 of our Javelin & 1/4 of our Stinger missiles to Ukraine....our cushion is depleted with restocking to take years. TOLD YA SO!

We can't ramp up anymore.
So many of you on this blog act as if America has an endless supply of munitions, can make it appear as if by magic and more importantly CAN AFFORD to make it all happen.
With inflation, I seriously doubt it.
We've put ourselves into a hole and only now are we seeing officials/congress critters talk about it.

Even if you're an extremist and believe that Covid is deadly to all (not just the unhealthy and old),this makes no sense!
It appears to me that this type of chaos off the coast of China goes beyond covid mitigation.
I believe its part economic warfare being launched against the US/West.
I know. It's on the fringe. What else explains this kind madness. Inflation will zoom no matter how high the Fed raise rates because the bottleneck is tightening....if its essential then someone will buy it at outrageous prices.
If this continues past summer then even the unessential will be bought at outrageous prices for the Christmas season.

The civilians that are encircled in Mariupol (with the Azov Regiment) are being allowed out....curious war.
First a small rant.
How do you know you're being spun by the media? When the term far right is used in the US to describe simple conservatives, but when dealing with an actual NAZI organization in Ukraine we've heard the same descriptor.
I've heard far right, National Guard unit, anything but Azov Regiment which is associated with NAZIs (has them in its ranks).
Now onto this situation.
I don't get it.
Everything I've seen points to Ukrainian success (don't care who wins just wants this thing over with for the sake of the world), they've been flooded with weapons (they're gonna need a logistical genius to keep track and determine which unit gets what and then to keep it properly supplied) and they're supposed to be making gains all over the place.
So why would an Army that is being harassed and repelled on multiple fronts allow an enemy to escape? I will note that I've seen vids of some of the trapped AZOV members and I don't see the hollowed eyes, sunken jaws of men that are being stressed by continuous bombardments and intermittent meals.
But back to the issue.
I don't understand why the Russians are relenting...it is "nice" but it isn't the kind of high tech, winner take all war that this is being billed as.

The SecDef said that the goal is to degrade Russia's military. Ok. I get the strategic goal behind that. Bring Russia to heel and you have a backdoor into China when we finally get around to that fight (I suspect that was the real push for Afghanistan).
But has ANYONE thought about the implications of that?
Let's just look at the simple part of this.
WHAT HAPPENS IF RUSSIA IS PUSHED OUT UKRAINIAN AREAS THEY'VE ANNEXED?
By everything I've read, an attack against an annexed area is the same as attacking that nation's homeland.
So Russian leadership has been talking about the possibility of nuclear war increasing, the SecDef says his little thing, Ukraine is being emboldened to "make its country whole" and no one is thinking of the ramifications of such an action?
We seriously need someone to turn down the temp on this thing. It could EASILY spiral out of control. The Russia Hawks are gonna get us all in more pain than you can imagine.
