The question that no one in the "freedom for Ukraine" camp is willing to answer...What does the end of the war look like?

Read the entire thread of this dude's tweet.

Notice that he falls back on the "fighting for freedom" argument but ignores the VITAL national security implications facing the US and Europe.

I've asked several times how we turn this thing off.  The responses have been childish and silly.  They usually go something like "once Ukraine is whole" or "after Russia is defeated".

Those that are pushing the "freedom" or worse the "fighting for democracy all over the world" are missing the big picture.

Is Europe actually prepared for a 5 to 10 year insurgency/low level war?

Is the global economy prepared?

Ramping up a conflict with no clear idea of what the  end state will be is like doing an Afghanistan 2.0.  If you don't know the desired endstate then a war can go on forever.

The US is propping up Ukraine's economy.  That won't last past the midterms.  The US and Europe are sending excess military gear to Ukraine.  Again that has a finite timeline.

Sooner or later this will start to involve real national treasure and hard choices between Ukraine and domestic needs.

Finding an off ramp isn't just smart.  It's a national security imperative.  The longer this goes on the bigger the chance this thing destabilizes Europe and other parts of the world.

Berger is shedding artillery by giving it Ukraine...

His so called campaign of learning must be moving at breakneck speed. Dude can't get rid of our gear fast enough it seems. Ya know why I have a problem with this?

Its because of the risk!

We are YEARS AWAY from him putting into place his risky ass plan, yet before we've even acquired the gear that he has programed in the future, he's divesting of what we have NOW!

So the Marine Corps has already moved into a nether region.

It's between the so called "legacy" force and this new abomination.

It's can't perform the missions that it once could and CANNOT perform the missions that he wants to switch to.

The Marine Corps is caught in the worst of both worlds.

Did the Marine Corps messaging and total focus on Indo Pacific destroy its requirement for large amphibious ships?

 via Defense Daily (paywall)

A Marine Corps official told a congressional panel Wednesday the Navy’s plans to reduce amphibious warships in the medium term from 24 ships will add risk to the service’s ability to respond to crises, particularly outside the Indo-Pacific region.

Here

What could be behind the Navy's being so committed to cutting large amphibious ships in a time when the Marine Corps is touting the need for naval integration?

Its either the need for the Navy to build up its fleet of PURE warships or the messaging from the Marine Corps that its focus would be totally on the Indo Pacific (I note that I find the number of Light Weight Amphibs puzzling...that's an awful lot of small ships for that one theater).

Regardless I will watch this debate with much interest.

The Navy is about to hammer the Marines.  A delay in the LAW and cuts to the large amphibs is gonna be a bitter pill.

It is to be expected though.

Berger himself has stated that the Marine Corps is no longer wedded to the idea of 2.0 MEB equivalent amphibs.

Those chickens he laid are coming home to roost.

18.05.2022 Azovstal The struggle continues...are they hoping for a last stand?

Are they hoping for a last stand? Is it visions of the "300"? I'm sure it will be played that way in the future but the reality is that they should have just evacuated with the rest of the forces.

Question.

Is it just me or does it seem that the effort to relieve/retrieve the Azov Regiment was a bit half hearted.  The concern for civilians was intense and sincere.  Azov?  Not so much.

I can't get the Tweet out of my mind...the one where Zelensky was trying to get the Regiment to stop its attacks in 2019. I would luv to know his thoughts on Azov...not public statements but his real thoughts.

It's beyond military gear now. We're actually propping up Ukraine's economy during a time of extreme stress at home

Make it make sense~! Extreme economic pain at home for MANY Americans and our Congress chooses to prop up Ukraine's economy instead? America first is NOT an extreme right wing position. It is a PATRIOTIC, centrist position held by the MAJORITY of Americans!

Either stark raving mad or something was going on behind closed doors...Motorboating at promotion ceremony

 via Army Times

A former Louisiana National Guard officer was allowed to retire after a general court-martial convicted him of charges stemming from “motorboating” a subordinate soldier during an informal promotion ceremony while deployed to Jordan in May 2021, Army Times has confirmed.

Capt. Billy Joe Crosby Jr., a logistics officer who was overseas with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team during its recent deployment, was initially charged with abusive sexual contact and conduct unbecoming an officer, according to court records obtained by Army Times. Crosby was the officer-in-charge of an outpost in Jordan.

Here

A few things...

* Never let a coon-ass get liquored up...bad things always happen when they do (gotta be from La to understand!).

* This dude was either stark raving mad or something was going on behind closed doors.

* Kind of amazed that they would let him get off with such a light punishment in the age we live in.  Obviously the victim concurred with the diminished punishment which leads me to believe something was going on...

A new airborne disease? This time it's Monkeypox?

 2022 sucks donkey balls...

Blast from the not too distant past. Zelensky trying to get Azov to follow orders...

Thanks to J. Villain for the link!

The more I see the more I AM UTTERLY CONVINCED that this war is a massive psyops campaign perpetrated on the people of the US/West/NATO.

The Ukrainians are being used.  Russia was goaded into this war.  Someone that believes they're masters of the universe is sitting back moving chess pieces.

Conspiracy theory?

Perhaps, but make it make sense!

He looks barely 18. Few will mourn his loss....? This is worrisome, people that should know better are falling prey to the moment.

Few will mourn his loss? His mother will rage at his pointless death? Ukrainian mothers can mourn with pride?

Nicholas needs to put down the crack pipe.

His mother will mourn at the loss of her beloved son.  Ukrainian mothers will mourn at the loss of their beloved sons.

All mothers will think it's pointless.

If he was face to face with the guy that killed him then that person will live with that act for the rest of his life.  He will be happy to be alive and no, he will not mourn.  But he will carry the burden.

Nicholas knows all this.  Why such a callous post?  I have no idea but he should step back from the ledge.  Dude is getting caught up in the moment and letting his ginned up rage take him down rabbit holes he shouldn't go.

(05:23) SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) – BRIGADIER NICK COWLEY, COMMANDER OF 16 AIR ASSAULT BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM, BRITISH ARMY
“So North Macedonia is really important for us because it’s the newest NATO Ally. We’ve come here to train as 16 Air Assault Brigade from the British Army because they offer a very extensive training area, to reassure them that they are absolutely part of NATO, that we will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them. And it’s also been a place to convene eight different nations to train together in this space so I think it’s a really powerful message, training in North Macedonia.”
(05:51) SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) – BRIGADIER NICK COWLEY, COMMANDER OF 16 AIR ASSAULT BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM, BRITISH ARMY
“So I think there’s two layers of it, one of it’s been a demonstration of NATO power and NATO coming together and the countries working together, the second bit of it I think is showing at the tactical level, how we’re able to layer what we call ‘ISTAR’ so the eye in the sky with fixed-wing aircraft, with helicopters, with troops on the ground – and bringing all those things together at a point of our choosing and that really is what makes military power potent when you can layer them together in a space and time of your own choosing.”
