Perhaps the "New" Marine Corps should focus on assaulting Chinese Naval Facilities overseas....

They are "ensuring" allies and enhancing interoperability all over the Pacific while we run endless exercises. 

Being busy does NOT mean you're being effective or accomplishing a goal.

Is the US military actually accomplishing the goal of "reassuring allies" with these countless exercises or simply being busy?

Does forward presence actually "deter aggression" or simply show the flag in the frontiers (hopefully you get the Roman Empire analogy)?

The only good thing coming from this?

China is making the same mistake that we did.  They're deploying their forces all over the globe ... they're in many ways repeating the mistake of Rome, just like we have.

3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment conducts bilateral training with the French Foreign Legion

What is the future of Marine Infantry? Shock Troops is off the table. I still doubt Rapid Deployment Force work is gonna be a part of the future either despite what the current talking points are. Commandos in the Brit tradition? SOCOM won't allow it. MARSOC is as far as that is gonna go. Considering Force Design 2030, the sad reality is that its gonna be a combination of USAF Security Forces (guarding EABOs) and a beefed up JTAC (calling for fire on ships). Does the nation need a Marine Corps whose sole purpose is to act as JTAC and refueling aircraft at austere locations? Does the nation need a force of 150K if that is its reason for being?
