This is a prime opportunity for PACOM to strut its stuff for the US...

Their tragedy is a prime opportunity to strut our stuff. Foreign aid, not in form of "military assistance", "military partnership", training opportunities or defense pacts. This is an opportunity for PACOM to show that it is indeed a stabalizing influence and that America is more than just about war, selling arms and exploiting others.

From my blog to the PACOM head.  Get an Amphibious Ready Group/Marine Expeditionary Unit headed that way asap.

The new concepts are supposed to be capable or even more capable than the legacy.

Time to prove it in a real life HA/DR.

The Brits have lost their minds. If I was leading the Security Detail for the US President I'd tell them to pound sand or NOT GO!

World leaders attending the Queen's funeral next week will be packed onto buses and taken en masse to Westminster Abbey, according to a leaked document.

Royals, presidents and prime ministers heading to London for the state funeral on September 19 have also been asked to take commercial flights instead of private jets. Helicopters, such as Joe Biden's Marine One will be banned, from transporting VIPs about.

A document seen by Politico revealed leaders won't be allowed to use their own state cars to pay their respects at the service, instead they will be bused in from a secret location in west London.

It means Biden and his wife Jill may not travel to the UK on Air Force One or get about the capital in the Beast.

Here.

This is totally unacceptable for our head of state and if he were to give into British demands then he deserves to meet his fate.

But the audacity of this is just mindboggling.

We wouldn't ask their Prime Minister to do anything like this (we would coordinate) so I can't understand the insanity.

They're at it again! Heavy artillery fire being reported from Azerbaijan towards Armenia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet next week in Uzbekistan

Some of this shit ain't hard. Just think a little and consider the ramifications of your actions. The US Dept Of Defense has come out and stated the obvious...to its own detriment. It declared that China is the pacing threat and the SecDef said that Russian should be militarily downgraded (or something to that effect).

If you're China what would you do?

What you sit back calmly while Russia is defeated by the combined might of NATO (make no mistake this is not a battle/war between Russia and Ukraine...its Russia vs NATO)?

The answer is no.

You would act cautiously but its easy to see why China would want Russia to remain the "threat" to the West as it currently is.

You have European nations so scared to participate in war against China because they fear that Russia will gobble them up and its a no brainer.

Our leadership continues to act tactically INSTEAD OF strategically.

I just don't see a person with a grand strategy to sew together all these far flung obligations.

This is a big planet.  We can't engage in hostilities with 75% of it...even if a large portion of that 75% is what we would consider undeveloped.  We've seen how primitives with proper motivation can blunt our efforts.

Think about this.

Think about Afghanistan 2.0 but this time with the Taliban receiving full support of China and Russia.

Do you get it now?

Found the vid of the Taliban BlackHawk crash (Reddit)

via Oddly Terrifying/Reddit

This is....I can't properly comment, but oddly terrifying fits the bill.

NTC is about to wreck 1st Armored! They're sending out drone swarms to put them to the test...the USMC should get some of this training!

I almost feel sorry for the CO of that unit. They're about to get hammered, used as an example of what not to do and his fitrep will take a hit. If they classify the after action then the dude might as well retire. Just kidding but it won't be fun. Think I'm gonna follow NTC-6 and see what the outcome of this attack was...

Iran's Shahid Qassem Soleimani Corvette is an impressive looking ship...can't wait for more info

A hornet is powerful enough to kill a mouse?

Russians hit thermal power plant...

I hope the powers that be have an idea of what is going to be the "structure" of a post war Ukraine. It's gonna be a mess. It's still gonna be corrupt. They're still gonna be whining for aid. Lastly they're still gonna be begging the US for money (well Ukraine and the EU). This isn't a win. This is another fucking obligation for people we owe nothing to. Meanwhile we are a basket case, have sold off our strategic oil reserve, have sunken deeper in debt, have depleted our warstocks and have only gotten in return memes. I so fucking hate war cheerleaders.

Is the spike in crime part of a larger plan or just plain stupidity?

I personally think that the spike in crime is due to a few factors.

* The lockdowns pushed many mentally troubled people over the edge and they're acting out now that they're "re-socializing".

* The desire to express compassion to criminals resulted in extremely shortened sentences for some of the most dangerous people in our society.

* Despite all available evidence that these policies are NOT working, it seems that the powers that be continue to double down on them.

The worst thing?  The people that all this was supposed to help are the ones being most hurt by them.  I have yet to hear one politician from the left side of the isle speak out against them (wait ... the Mayor of New York made a feeble effort).

This is either a plan or stupidity.  Either way its troubling.

Sep 11. I remember but we're making the same mistakes...

I am so conflicted by this "day of remembrance".

America is fucked up on several levels.  I despise the elite, politicians, "influencers" and just the average joe blow that tries to become so sick and somber.

It was a tragedy.  We fucked up on every level imaginable. We went to war.  But we're still fucking up.

*  The border is wide open and no one is talking about the HUGE number of illegals crossing, but also IGNORING the number of threats to our security that are flowing across with them.

*  Everyone got jacked up and primed to act for the Afghanistan evacuation but we didn't vet the people coming and we brought over more than a few other threats to our security.

*  We went to war against Afghanistan and Iraq.  We ravaged both countries, both countries are basket cases and both countries will probably be fucked for several more generations (thereby generating EVEN MORE terror threats) but we left the Saudis alone and they're the home of all this bullshit and home to the ACTUAL terrorists that struck us.

*  We had a window of opportunity when the WHOLE FUCKING WORLD was ready to climb aboard a RESTRAINED and FOCUSED operation to kill terrorism world wide.  RUSSIA, SYRIA, IRAQ, CHINA, the EU, S.KOREA, JAPAN, AUSTRALIA and more were all aboard killing terrorist wherever we found them.

Bush Jr, Cheney and Rumsfeld pissed away the good will and led us into feckless, useless ass wars.

If they had made different choices the world would be different. They fucked up and fucked us all.

We witnessed this terror event and yet no heads rolled.  No one paid the price for their failure.  We do the solemn moment thing.  We lower our heads in prayer for the victims but when it comes to actually do some FUCKING WORK to make sure it doesn't happen again, everyone is sitting on their hands masturbating in sorrow.

So yeah blog.  I remember this day and it pisses me the fuck off.

You people might not like it but many Americans are questioning the aid to Ukraine...

A corrupt country. Sending billions of dollars of weapons with no accountability. Supporting their govt with copious amounts of aid (that is somehow not getting reported...who the fuck do you think is paying salaries of soldiers and bureaucrats over there?) and no end in sight.

Let me ask my fellow Americans one thing.

Have you noticed that the most fevered supporters of continuing support for Ukraine are almost always Europeans (read the comments here and then check the IP addresses)?  Additionally have you noticed its always for the US to do more, not for THEM to do more?

Make no mistake clowns.

The closer the Ukrainians (and probably the Poles...they want this fight!) get to the Russian border the more easily this thing could spin out of control.

One malfunctioning rocket (or ordered to attack a target by a Commanding Officer that goes batshit crazy) that flies into Russia and somehow hits a target that is of importance and you could be looking at WW3.

Ukraine - Russia War. Where are we now?

Ukraine has launched its offensive and that makes sense. I've been wondering why the US has been giving them so much money lately...above and beyond simply resupplying their military, we're now subsidizing their govt.

So why now?

I think it all comes back to winter.

A few things are coming...

1.  The populations in Europe and the US will be enraged by high energy prices.  If you've been paying attention (at least in the US) you'll see that gas prices have come down.  Why?  Fewer people driving.

But the sick thing is that energy bills have been spiking!  I've experienced that myself!  But why?  Easy. You see gas prices everyday, you get that bill for your home energy bill just once a month.

The average person rages for a few days and then daily life gets back in the way.  It's forgotten till (for far too many) money gets slim between paydays and when you go to the grocery store (high prices there too) you have to decide between your usual brand or a generic because of price.

2.  I think the allies are reaching their limit.  Limit as in weaponry they can contribute.  Remember this isn't wartime situation for the NATO countries.  They can retool but won't do it in such a way that wrecks budgets (except for Poland...those fuckers are damn near begging for a fight with Russia...they want it so bad they can taste it!).

A big push now or Ukraine will lose its support, not out of desire but out of ability.

The push to end the war in favorable terms for the Ukrainians is now.  If Russia can hang on till winter then Ukraine is doomed.

3.  Alot of talk about Russia buying weapons from N. Korea.  This shit is so simple I can't believe I have to explain it.  N. Korea is a middle man. China has started supply Russia.  Its covert.  Its deniable but it will be effective.

As far as buying drones from Iran?  Iranian drones have whacked the fuck outta US forces in Iraq and Syria.  They've made the Saudis shit the bed (in the hands of the Houthis they've been savaging Saudi installations).

Those are my thoughts on the situation.  What are yours?

Is Sparta Overrated? A List of Spartan Defeats

 via History & Headlines

Sparta has however won a number of victories, although you might notice this list is actually shorter than the list of Spartan defeats.  These include the following battles:

In c. 682 BC, Sparta won a decisive victory over Messenia and Arcadia in the Battle of the Great Foss.

In 457 BC, 11,500 Spartans defeated 14,000 Athenians in the Battle of Tanagra.  Casualties and losses for the battle are unknown.

In 494 BC, Sparta defeated Argos in the Battle of Sepeia.  Argos’s casualties and losses numbered 6,000.

In 417 BC, in the Second Battle of Hysiae, the Spartans captured the Argive town of Hysiae, taking all the male citizens as hostages before subsequently killing the hostages.

In 411 BC, 9,000 Spartans defeated 8,000 Athenians in the Battle of Syme.  Spartan casualties and losses numbered 900, whereas Athens’s casualties and losses numbered 2,900!

In September 411 BC, 8,000 Spartans defeated 11,000 Athenians in the Battle of Eretria.  Sparta’s casualties and losses numbered 1,100; Athens’s casualties and losses numbered 4,000+.

In 406 BC, Sparta with 90 ships managed to defeat Athens with 80 ships at the Battle of Notium.  Sparta suffered no casualties, but Athens lost 15-22 ships.

Also in 406 BC, Sparta’s 170 ships defeated Athens’s 70 ships in the Battle of Mytilene.

In 405 BC, 180 ships fighting for Sparta, Persia, Corinth, and the Peloponnesian League won the decisive Battle of Aegospotami over 170 ships fighting for Athens and the Delian League.  While Spartan losses were minimal, Athens lost 150 ships and also 3,000 sailors who were executed.  Athens was then besieged.  Athens’s surrender ended the Peloponnesian War.

In 403 BC, Sparta defeated Athenian exiles in the Battle of Piraeus.  Although Spartan losses are unknown, over 180 Athenian exiles were killed.

In 394 BC, 18,000 Spartan hoplites defeated 24,000 hoplites from Thebes, Argos, Athens, and Corinth in the Battle of Nemea at a cost of 1,100 dead or wounded Spartans and 2,800 dead or wounded Thebans, Argives, Athenians, and Corinthians.

In 394 BC, Sparta and Orchomenus with a strength of 15,000 defeated Thebes, Argos, and allies with a strength of 20,000 in the Battle of Coronea.  The victors suffered casualties and losses numbering 350 versus the losers suffering casualties and losses numbering 600.

In Spring 272 BC, 2,000+ Spartans and Macedonians defeated 27,000 men and 24 elephants from Epirus in the Siege of Sparta.  Casualties and losses were heavy on both sides.

Here

Interesting.

Are the Spartans as we know them today a product of a fucking comic book?

Oh what's that?  You didn't know that the movie "300" was based on a comic?

Yeah.

From my recollection that's when Sparta and Spartans gained or regained their modern day fame (when the movie came out).

I've been checking out ancient battles and when it comes to warriors of note, the Spartans are just one of many groups. I think the society...every man a warrior is part of the appeal, but the same could be said of other nations of that era too.

One thing is certain.

While famed, the societal model was flawed. As with everything from the past you can take bits and pieces to form a "perfect union" but as a whole it just wouldn't work.

Quite honestly the society as seen in Starship Troopers (the book) is probably the closest thing that we could put together considering modern society...but even that would take bloodshed to get to.
