Evidently the Starlink system is down over the front lines of Ukraine. @elonmusk should make a statement about this, or, this should be investigated. This is a national security issue.

The Russian army is leading globally in its abilities to wage electronic warfare. It can disable ground based radio traffic on any frequency. It has now found ways to also disable ground to satellite connections as used by the Starlink constellation.

At the beginning of the war the Ukrainian military was supplied with thousands of Starlink ground terminals that can connect to the swarms of small Starlink satellites, which were financed by the Pentagon, but managed by Elon Musk's companies. They allowed for communication between Ukrainian ground units as well as for general command and control of larger operations. Without Starlink the Ukrainian command will depend on cable based field telephone, runners and couriers. All of which are extremely vulnerable in an artillery rich environment.

Wow.

I've been MUCH MUCH MUCH more simplistic in my thinking about comms in this war.

The thing that has bothered me the most is all the vids we've been seeing from the front.

What happened to "if you have a phone they can locate and kill ya" that has been drummed into everyone's heads?

But to knock out starlink?

Elon hasn't said a thing about that.  Neither has the Ukrainians. Command & Control is taking a big hit if that goes down and that alone will slow the Ukrainian advance.

But it gets even more interesting.  I've long suspected that allied forces were on the ground advising the Ukrainians.  Check this out from MoA!

 

I have no way to verify those claims but a recent Intercept report stated that there are significant U.S. forces on the ground in Ukraine:

One U.S. official insisted that the CIA only conducted a partial withdrawal of its assets when the war began, and that the agency “never completely left.”

Yet clandestine American operations inside Ukraine are now far more extensive than they were early in the war, when U.S. intelligence officials were fearful that Russia would steamroll over the Ukrainian army. There is a much larger presence of both CIA and U.S. special operations personnel and resources in Ukraine than there were at the time of the Russian invasion in February, several current and former intelligence officials told The Intercept.

Secret U.S. operations inside Ukraine are being conducted under a presidential covert action finding, current and former officials said. The finding indicates that the president has quietly notified certain congressional leaders about the administration’s decision to conduct a broad program of clandestine operations inside the country.

These will not be the only U.S. casualties in Ukraine. When more such reports come out the issue is likely to explode in Biden's face.

Thought of the day. This group of "think tank dudes", "general officers" and "foreign policy hawks" couldn't beat goat herders and you think this is gonna be clean & easy?

 The title says it all.

The think tank dudes, general officers and foreign policy hawks are all running this war in Ukraine using Zelensky as the face of this clown show.

Real question.

How many times did you hear someone in "authority" say that one more battle in shit hole ass village will be the turning point of the war?

How many times did you hear that "we just have to finish the job"?

The same people are telling you not to worry about this thing.  The same people that are telling you that they have something as unpredictable as combat under control are the same ones that fed us all bullshit for 20 years.

All I can do is put it on your plate.

If you decide to believe the same lies that have bandied about before that's on you.

Ukrainians are carrying out cross border strikes inside Russia?

Ukrainian suicide drone exploded at a Russian airbase destroying two bombers, two Ukrainian intelligence sources tell The War Zone.


The attack took place at the Shaykovka Air Base in the Kaluga Oblast, about 140 miles north of the Ukrainian border and about 170 miles southwest of Moscow.


The base is home to Russian Tu-22M Backfire bombers from the 52nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment.


“Two bombers are not recoverable,” one source tells The War Zone.


An earlier report by the Ukrainian LB.ua news outlet notes that an “explosion occurred on the territory of the Shaykovka military airfield in the Kaluga region as a result of a kamikaze drone attack.”


LB.ua cited the oblast’s governor, Vladyslav Shapsha, as saying the drone “arrived from the border” of Ukraine.

What I do know is regardless, this little piss ant, corrupt, backwards nation...led by a puffed up little comedian is about to drag us into a wider war.

Its well past time for the memes to stop and clear thinking come to the fore.

Navy working hard on "at sea" vertical replenishment

 The U.S. Navy is scheduled to demonstrate re-arming the vertical launch system aboard Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) at Naval Air Station North Island and in the San Diego Harbor from Oct. 4 – 7.

This will be the first time the Navy has tested VLS reloading from an offshore support vessel platform, using Military Sealift Command fleet experimentation ship MV Ocean Valor.

The demonstration is being conducted to provide proof of concept that an offshore support vessel can reload the weapons system pierside and while the ship is at sea, with a goal of expanding the capability of VLS reloading in expeditionary environments.

The launch system re-load has been tested previously, in 2016 and 2019, using other Military Sealift Command platforms.

Spruance, named for Adm. Raymond A. Spruance, who commanded U.S. forces at the Battle of Midway, is homeported in San Diego. The ship returned to the Naval Base San Diego in August following a seven-month deployment with Carrier Strike Group 3 to the U.S. 3rd and 7th Fleets. Spruance was also one of 38 ships from 26 partner nations who took part in Exercise Rim of the Pacific 2022 in the Hawaiian Islands Operating Area from June to August.

Built in 2002, MV Ocean Valor is an MSC-contracted vessel that supports logistics experimentation for fuel, stores, passengers and ordnance delivery.

The demonstration will not include live ordnance and there is no danger posed to the residents of San Diego, the harbor or sea life.

An integral part of U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. 3rd Fleet leads naval forces in the Indo-Pacific and provides the realistic, relevant training necessary to flawlessly execute our Navy’s role across the full spectrum of military operations—from combat operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. U.S. 3rd Fleet works together with our allies and partners to advance freedom of navigation, the rule of law, and other principles that underpin security for the Indo-Pacific region.

Biden offers stark ‘Armageddon’ warning on the dangers of Putin’s nuclear threats

 President Joe Biden on Thursday delivered a stark warning about the dangers behind Russian President Vladimir Putin’s nuclear threats as Moscow continues to face military setbacks in Ukraine.


“First time since the Cuban missile crisis, we have a direct threat of the use (of a) nuclear weapon if in fact things continue down the path they are going,” Biden warned during remarks at a Democratic fundraiser in New York where he was introduced by James Murdoch, the youngest son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, according to the pool report.


He added: “I don’t think there’s any such thing as the ability to easily (use) a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon.”

For a bunch of so called military guys how can you not know the basics of Russian doctrine?

Escalating to de-escalate is 101 shit they teach even at SOI!  I mean its on a more basic level but you attack in order to perform an orderly retreat etc....?

So thinking that the Russians would use tactical nuclear weapons in order to stabilize the battlefield is NOT OUTSIDE THE REALM OF POSSIBILITIES!!!

Another thing is that you have to get inside the mind of your enemy or at least attempt to anticipate his actions.

From Russia's seat they're fighting NATO and have been since a few weeks after the start of the war.

Do you NOT believe that Ukraine would have collapsed if not for the massive aid being pushed?

From the Russians view they've engaged NATO, their foreign minister has said that we've crossed line of pushing so much aid as to be considered a combatant and you think that they won't use tactical nukes?

Some of you live in fantasy land.  Time to wake up and face reality!

We might be on the verge of a revolution in Iran...

Keep an eye on this folks. Don't have good visibility but the little snippets I am seeing indicate that something big might be brewing. We could see some type of military action to refocus the masses there. Oh and if you don't care you will. A spasm by the Iranian govt to refocus their citizens would probably cause oil to spike leading to extreme pain at the pump.
