It just occurred to me. Prig didn't kick this off. The Russian Military Chief did

How good are ya'lls memory of the internal struggle inside Russia? A few of you might remember it and I know it didn't get many comments here but this whole thing wasn't kicked off by Prig.

This whole drama came from the Russian Military Chief!

Why do I say that?

A few weeks to maybe a month ago, the Russian Military Chief demanded that all military groups fall under command of the Army. This of course included Wagner.

Of course Prig refused.

That ladies and gentlemen is the cause of this drama.

Ain't no power plays by Putin to put these groups against each other.  Ain't no play by Prig to usurp Putin.

This is simply a case where the conventional military is trying to take control of a private military contractor and the contractor is saying not only no but hell no.

Russian Military says that reports of missile strikes on Wagner are untrue and informational provocation

This is interesting as FUCK! Something is brewing in the Kremlin. Just the other day Putin talked about the war and made some thoughtful observations. I wonder if he'll weigh in on this. Just found this vid.

I wonder if this is Wagner related? Russian media reports an emergency statement of the Ministry of Defense of Russia is being prepared

Prigozhin said that the Russian Armed Forces launched a missile attack on Wagner PMC

Geez. This thing is reaching a climax and not the good kind either!

Just an observation. Has anyone noticed how little sympathy their is for the submerible crew?

I might be wrong but I consider the submersible saga another part of the bread and circuses to distract the public.

Our DoD determined the same day they went missing that the crew was lost but the Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and foreign forces still went along with the charade that they could possibly be alive.

Why the deception on something like this is beyond me but it should be troubling to EVERYONE.

Our US Military is now in the habit (openly) of lying to us about what should be a trivial matter.

If you trust the DoD after this then God help ya.

But onto the subject of this blog post.  Have you noticed how little sympathy these millionaires are getting?

I've seen posts that say "crush the rich".  Maybe its a sign of the times but people were more invested in the drama of the thing than they were of the actual rescue.  To be blunt I was curious if they'd rollout some unknown vehicle to save them and that's assuming we have one, otherwise they were dead anyway.  I don't know many that were actually cheering for them to make it back (I was just an observer of the thing...I believe we all die its just a matter of if we die doing something stupid...this ranked as stupid in my mind).

Things are afoot societally.  Don't know what the ramifications are but things are changing.

Did the Ukrainians just declare this counter offensive a failure?

Thanks to Duke 7 for the link! This tweet sounds like an admission of defeat but there is so much more. I detect a jab at the Leopard 2 MBT. Stating that they can get American Abrams indicates to me that they believe that its armored protection will be key to breaking thru Russian defenses. But the biggest takeaway is that this war will continue. The ability to develop enough combat power to breach is not present (and I don't think will be in the future). We're looking at a stalemate. Hopefully with this realization we can finally start talking ceasefire and then a peace agreement. Unfortunately the push to add Ukraine to NATO will bring all kinds of unforeseen dangers. In the past the mutual defense charter meant something but even if peace were declared with Ukraine joining NATO, I consider them too much of a wild card. My fear is that when admitted to NATO they're likely to conduct a false flag operation to plunge the alliance into a direct conflict with Russia.

Israeli Prime Minister confirms that Western weapons are flowing thru Ukraine to terrorists in the Middle East...the warning about corruption in Ukraine was spot on

Just plain wow. The Israeli PM is stating that Western weapons have gone to Ukraine, hit the market and ended up in the hands of terrorists in the Middle East. This should be front page news. I warned about the rampant corruption Ukraine. I also warned that we might face the scenario that criminal organizations might use anti-tank weapons to take on local law enforcement or worse they might decide to destroy an airliner with one of the manpads we've sent. This war will be a threat to the West for several generations to come. Bad policy always leads to bad results.

Of course the real kick in the pants is that even Israel has decided that it will not go along with US "asks".

We've lost the Middle East.

It's now a Russia/China playground.

We are watching real time America power/influence decline.

Wagner PMC chief Prigozhin seems to be spiraling down a deep hole

Ok. I'm convinced that this is an internal battle. What I can't figure is what Prigozhin's goal is and who is behind it. If I didn't know better I would think that either Shoigu is the target of a PERSONAL vendetta which is his best case scenario. The worst case is that Putin is encouraging this and is setting up justification for firing the guy. If this is palace intrigue then is Shoigu being setup as the fall guy? Regardless I can't see this going on much further. This type of activity going on while your forces are in the midst of resisting a counter offensive is not what you want to see at the upper reaches of the military.

Has Shoigu ever responded to these verbal attacks?  I would luv to know his standing with Putin as this moment.

Has Putin ever made any public statements about Prigozhin's statements?

Regardless Shoigu better have a go bag packed and ready to go with firearms, passports and tons of cash & gold.

The Captain of the sunken submersible talked about "taking risks"

Russian Lancet attacking Ukrainian Grad MLRS

* This is the other weapon that is helping blunt the Ukrainian assault. What puzzles me is that while we've seen plenty of drones dropping grenades we've seen alot fewer loitering munitions deployed by Ukraine. Have they depleted their stockpile or are they hoarding them for the breakthru?

Canadian armored car Roshel Senator, delivered to Ukraine, failed to cope with the road

Wars happen between the politicians for their ideologies.. Death happens to common citizens (NSFW vid...aftermath of a rocket attack)

I wanna so apologize to all that are tossing links my way. Time is speeding up (still healing from the fracture), still have training obligations & with this time off and finally out of the boot (walking slowly) I'm doing all kinds of personal stuff that was on the back burner. Why say all that. Cause I'm zooming thru stuff. I try and post things of interest but in my haste I'm failing to credit those that took the time to share this. Bear with me.

As far as the vid.  This is the caption to it...
Abandoned position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with uncleaned corpses. When they left, they decided not to take their dead and left them as they were.

Video next page - don’t watch it if you are not prepared to see the real horror of war.

Pretty brutal stuff.  The wildlife and dogs are eating well in this war zone.

Athens, Sparta, America, and War

 via AMAC

Contrary to conventional summaries, Greek city-states were neither purely democratic nor purely militaristic. They were, as we are, complex. Athens was a pseudo-democracy – but aggressive and expansionist, constantly waring with others for land.

Contrary to myth, Athens was not the “land of bread and honey,” especially for women, who had no rights, could not vote, and were effectively property of their husbands.

Novel in the way it pioneered self-rule, Athens was actually governed by a loosely defined upper class, with “lots” drawn – and favored retired military heroes as leaders.

By contrast, Sparta – which history despises more than Richard III, a likely victim of Tudor disinformation – was not a heathen, horrible, all-war-all-the-time sort of place.

An inland city-state with no real navy, it tended to be defensive, focused on domestic prosperity, non-expansionist, and notably gave women every right men had – no exceptions.

Sparta’s domestic life was hardly insufferable, and the most educated citizens were elected to bodies that served under a king. If the collective view disagreed with the king, he was overruled.

So, why did history trash Sparta and celebrate Athens? Why do historians see Sparta’s more gender-equitable, orderly lifestyle – not expansionist – as bad? Why is Athens the posterchild for “good” governance, Sparta all that is “bad?”

The reason is simple, but subtle. Athens tended toward democratic rule, higher education, encouraged philosophy, higher thinking, even poetry. Athens was a dualism, confident in intellectual and political innovation – but also aggressive.

The reverse image, Sparta was content with traditional norms, not big on innovation, hardly ready to abandon established social norms, individuality and freedom, including for women.

Sparta was also determined to be prepared for war, perhaps because of city-states like Athens, invariably at their gates. So – and here is the nub – Sparta took nothing for granted.

Sparta had mandatory military service, modest for the young and highly capable, no excuses, no lapses for men in their prime and older age. Notably, if the population had not wished this, they could have overruled the king – and they did not.

History is in the West heavily biased toward the developments in the "west" at the expense of teaching what was going on in the rest of the world.

It ignores other civilizations unless they poised a threat to Rome or Athens (other Greek city states).

But even in that bias you have to have noticed that Sparta is singled out for the most disparaging views of all of them.

I've always wondered why.

By today's standards they were forward thinking.  By the standards of the time they were no better or worse than the other states.

So why the hate?

It's martial traits.

The author struggles to link the martial traits of Sparta with our Roman sensibilities.

That's flawed thinking.  You can have one but not both.  Apparently we're choosing to follow the examples of the Romans.

Iveco will supply the Swedish Armed Forces with multi-purpose vehicles

* A ready made "battle van"??? This thing would sell like hotcakes in the southern US!  I've seen so many 4x4 vans that are conversions that it makes me wonder why no manufacturer has tried to corner the market.

On June 16, Iveco Defense Vehicles (IDV) announced that it had signed a framework contract with the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (Försvarets materielverk, FMV) for the supply of up to 3,000 light vehicles for the Swedish Armed Forces. The first order will cover 400 cars.

The contract concluded by IDV is a framework agreement (FWA) for the supply of up to 3,000 light multi-purpose LMPV (Light Multi Purpose Vehicles) MUV 4×4 (Military Utility Vehicle) vehicles. The agreement is to run from 2023 to 2027, with an option to extend it for another five years.
