Israeli Defense Force conducting Brigade sized op in Jenin

Interesting take on the French riots. Fear will have citizens accept more surveillance, we did after 9/11 with the Patriot Act

This is an interesting take and I believe it to be true. After this massive failure of state security, the French people will happily accept more govt surveillance to prevent it from happening in the future. Fear without courage gets people to accept all kinds of nonsense. I mean we accepted the Patriot Act after 9/11 and that came from a so called conservative President and Congress.

Tin foil hat time.  I think this person is right.

More state control always happens after horrific incidents...as if the tremendous power of the state is incapable of controlling events with the power they have and MUST have more to prevent it in the future.

What is it they say?  Never let a crisis go to waste?

This is gonna roll down hill. Wonder if the BN commander could lose his command over something like this. Never saw it from the O side. Sucks to be the SNCO on duty too. Pain and misery is gonna be the outcome from those involved and on the edges of this thing!

AMX-10 is NOT suitable for offensive operations in Ukraine

I wonder. How are they using them? Infantry support/Mobile Gun, or in direct fire? If its infantry support/mobile gun then just wow. Direct fire? Why, they have tons of tanks for that job. He specifically mentions artillery. The King of battle is back and he is affecting everything. The USMC getting rid of so much cannon artillery was definitely a mistake.

ARMY STRONG! Check out Maj Rachel Jones!

We are so screwed. I thought the Army could pick up the slack where the USMC was leaving the ground fight. I was wrong. How did someone put it? Imagine you've been in the Army for 15 years, been on 8 deployments with 3 combat tours and in walks your new Battalion XO. Just wow.

French Rioters (Insurgents?) fire Rocket Propelled Grenade at French Police Station

Geez. I said the protesters had military grade weapons but I never expected this. Now I'm waiting for the dedicated anti-tank weapon to show up. An NLAW or Javelin would practically make the entire Western world shit its pants. I thought the French National Police would have this wrapped up by now. I was wrong. How long before we see a full military mobilization? The Foreign Legion is still full of brutes. They might be just the "lads" (as my Brit friends say) to deal with this situation. One thing is certain. If they can't calm this and restore order by Monday morning then its martial law time in France. Talking full lockdown, stay at home orders and serious sweeps thru all those no-go zones I've been hearing about.

French police show up in force in Paris

Yeah. This was a failure of national leadership. These youngster run amok was only because the authorities failed to enforce the rule of law (we've seen it plenty in the US...some cities continue to see this). Uncontained liberalism, ie...anything goes, only leads to a chaotic society. While some may view it as being open, open minded or even define it as being equitable, there is no equity in uncivil behavior.

The French leadership seem to have regained their footing.

I am waiting to see what actions are taken after calm is restored. Will they hunt down those that participated in the mayhem?  Will they deport non-citizens that participated in violence?  Will French citizens that partook in the violence be tried, convicted and sentenced to jail or will their courts and society simply revel in the peace and move on.

My bet is that they simply get back to their lives.  The outrage will be short lived and they act like nothing happened.

We will see.

The rioters in France have belt-fed weapons but the police are striking back...

This is more like the French police I know from MANY years ago...the French will crack heads when pushed far enough. People don't seem to remember their history but the French can be BRUTAL.

Chechen leader rumored to be on his deathbed

No idea how or if this will affect the war if true.

US volunteer in Ukraine talks about this war...

As expected. This thing barely looks survivable from my chair. Not quick death either but pain and misery on a constant basis once you get to the front. Oh and its summer now. Multiply that misery by 1000 when winter hits. Ya know what's been my biggest surprise? There are still chubby guys on the line. I thought all the stress would have dudes shedding pounds like crazy. Maybe its the MREs they're given?

Major takeaways from CSIC's Taiwan wargame (read the entire thread)

Note. The fighter mafia needs to die and die quickly. Bombers are the key to the Pacific! Large payload, long range and big enough to carry additional ISR gear too its been obvious for awhile that bombers not fighters are needed. Perhaps medium bombers but bombers none-the-less. The bias towards fighters should have ended long ago. Especially considering that they no longer perform "real" close air support and are instead lobbing small diameter bombs from distance the need for dedicated fighters seems to be a niche role...even our multi-role fighters are biased toward either air superiority or strike (F-16/15/22 air superiority or F-18/35 for strike). As far as hypersonics go I have no opinion, just don't know enough. Smaller ships? Sounds good but tonnage sunk is still tonnage sunk. Perhaps the aim is for resilence in the fleet (haven't read the report)? As far as the stealth angle? Its been talked about enough. The S. Koreans are on the right track. Don't need full stealth for the majority of missions and the F-35 has shown us that stealth in any form ain't cheap and probably never will be.
