The petrodollar is under attack and no one is noticing...

This will affect us all but all I hear is people downplaying this thing. Noble (a reader of this blog) first put me onto this and I've been watching it ever since. This is the basis for our wild and wooly foreign policy and our efforts to prop this thing up are failing badly.

My warning to you?

If unchecked with our diplomatic efforts (which are failing too), you will see a series of fights worldwide in order to re-establish the dollars dominance.

Our lives are gonna change too.  Our current economic system is based on the dollars dominance and if it goes away then the massive reset that some are talking about is all but guaranteed.

A horrific story about laxity in combat and not doing the basics...

Check out the entire Twitter thread. Laxity will get you killed. Discipline and perfecting the basics is ESSENTIAL!

Is this true? 33rd Mechanized Brigade refuses to carry out combat operations because they believe command is wasting their lives...

If this is true then fucking WOW~! We're seeing a basic breakdown of discipline. I don't recall exactly but I know refusing an order to perform a combat mission in the Marine Corps is some SERIOUS shit.

Like spend the rest of your life in the brig shit.  The kind that will get you labeled in the history of the Corps shit.

We are definitely in the land of mirrors with regard to the Ukraine/Russia war. We don't know what's actually going on and bad news can't be verified so it remains a mystery.

Leopard 2A6 is taking a beating on the battlefield and now pundits are questioning its "rep" as the best tank in the West...

Leopard 2A6 Main Battle Tank. OVERRATED!!!

Ukraine's Carpathian Battalion (Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Argentina Volunteers)

Kinda curious about the volunteers in this war. Why? Because "fighting for freedom" sounds cool but you have bills at home that need to be paid. So long story short? Who is paying these guys, how much are they making and how much is the death benefit if one of them get blasted? Oh and spare me. Its 2023. Ain't shit for free. Someone is paying and it has to be at least decent money.

The assault on the petro dollar picks up speed....India paying for Russian oil in Yuans

Damn! Didn't the India Prime Minister just visit the White House? I guess they assessed the man and said he ain't shit. Perception isn't everything but it is SOMETHING. We've been caught up in the stage of either laughing at Biden's blunders or cursing those around him and thinking they should be jailed for elder abuse.

We forgot about one other issue.

We laugh or pity our President.  Other world leaders see nothing but weakness.

We're in trouble folks.  This will pick up speed.  This administration will be extremely consequential in the worst possible ways for US global power.

Trump was ridiculed by the Europeans and or elite.  He wasn't thought of as being weak though.  I think Biden is oozing weakness and other leaders are pouncing.

German newspaper puts the losses of Ukrainian armor at a shockingly high number during their counteroffensive...

Thanks to Duke 7 for the link! I talked about Leopards getting smashed but the Bradley doesn't appear to be holding up well either. Its gotta be tactics, training, a combination of the two or it could simply be that these vehicles just weren't as robust as we thought they were. The surprise? The Marder, once called the best IFV in NATO (a long time ago) seems to be doing relatively well. Remember these numbers are from "probing attacks" and not the bulk of their force. Let the howling begin but a couple of things. The Ukrainians aren't putting out ANY numbers on their vehicle losses and the main stream media seems to be supporting them in that. Next we're in the fog of war and propaganda. If you pick sides in a fight like this then you're gonna miss obvious issues with the way you're conducting the fight.

First we're hearing word of a Ukrainian offensive before the next NATO meeting, now we're hearing about Russians massing forces for a counter-counter offensive!

PEO LS Overview June 2023 (why does a sea denial force need this office?)

A sea denial force does NOT need a PEO LS office. Anything dealing with "land systems" can simply be borrowed from the Army. A SIF/Recon- Counter Recon force does not need an Amphibious Combat Vehicle! Land combat is off the table for this force. We're looking at a WW2 defense battalion (at best). If this is the new mission then the Marines can shrink to less than 100K, toss its aviation to the Navy (they could use it), give up about 95% of its officers/99.5% of its generals and revert to being commanded by the Navy.

Not being plain enough?

If this is what the Marine Corps is gonna hang its hat on then the nation would be better served by casing the flag and shutting down this service.

Sea Denial is so limiting that if this is the reason for being for the Marine Corps then the Marine Corps is a waste of money.

What did the Russians use to take out this self propelled gun?

Is the size of the crater a result of the onboard ammo cooking off or are they targeting individual weapons with damn near ballistic missiles? That crater is abnormal. I thought cooked off ammo caused things to go out and up...not down. What hit this thing!

Prig speaks...talks of next victory at the front

Whats most disturbing about the Ukraine/Russia war from a Western perspective? Its not trench warfare (but that's bad too)

It just hit me what's so disturbing to me about the Ukraine/Russia war.  Of course I'm looking at this from a Western perspective and specifically from a Marine Corps point of view.

The disturbing thing is that instead of concentrating on the threat that's on the ground now you have to look up.

Death from above ain't a damn paratrooper.

That fucker can be dealt with while he's falling from the sky or when he hits deck.

The disturbing thing is those damn UAVs that hunt you individually and you can't use the terrain, a vehicle or even a building to get away from (yeah the Aussies love putting vids up of them flying inside buildings).

A UAV operator can put a good sniper to shame if he zeroes in on ya.

Add in the possibility of AI directed mini UAVs that target individual soldiers and run as long as they have battery power and the future battlefield is scary (in the real sense of the word, not the over used way many use the term these days).

Add to it heavy artillery strikes that do time on target attacks and you're in a hurt locker before you even turn to attacks from bombs dropping from the sky and you can't even see the aircraft.

The people fighting this war are fighting on an even playing field.

THAT IS NOT THE AMERICAN WAY!

Either we've outnumbered the enemy, out teched the enemy or had better tactics/training than the enemy.

I suddenly understand how the enemy has felt for the last 3 decades plus.

In a fight with China it would be peer vs peer.  We might out tech them in some areas and in others they'll out tech us.  We will surprise them with certain advances that are black projects and they'll do the same.

But ultimately it will be a fair fight.  I don't know how you get ready for a fair fight without understanding that you're gonna hurt, you're gonna get bloodied and if you're unlucky you're gonna get killed.

Almost all Leopard MBTs supplied by Poland and Portugal have been destroyed?

Checked the "number counting" Tweeters and can't find anything...they're good on Russian losses but very vague on Ukrainian ones. The only clue I have is the emergency allocation of armored vehicles by the US (the Europeans seemed tapped out). By US actions I know that things aren't going well.

That is the real danger for the Ukrainians and NATO (for whom the Ukrainians are fighting a proxy war...this ain't between Ukraine and Russia, its between Ukraine/NATO and Russia).

War stocks are low, manufacturing still hasn't turned up to wartime production despite all the talk and despite all the talk by SOME on this blog support is flagging and will flag even more with immigrants rioting in Europe.

My talk about taking care of things at home will spread.

They've got to decide.  Either push all the chips in now and make a huge gamble while pushing till you break the force and/or lose it all...or be cautious and let things build up (training and gear) and welcome a long war.

Either option is terrible for leadership in Washington, across the EU and NATO HQ. Remember we've already seen this play before.  Saints turn into villains real quick.  It happened to Fauci and it can happen to the architects of this war.

Australia is all in on the S. Korean K9 Self Propelled Howitzer...

via Australian Dept Of Defense

Tests of Army’s incoming AS9 Huntsman self-propelled howitzer, with its three-round burst and automated loading capabilities, are nearing completion in South Korea.

Army will first receive two AS9s, modelled off the South Korean K9 Thunder, and an AS10 armoured ammunition resupply vehicle imported from South Korea.

Construction of a new Hanwha Defense Australia factory is underway near Avalon, Victoria, where the remaining 42 vehicles will begin production in Australia late next year.

Hanwha has been working with the ADF to integrate Australian 155mm shells, including the new Rheinmetall Assegai munitions.

Major Brendan Kelleher, of the project team under Land 8116, said the tests ensured the combination of Australian ammunition and a Korean cannon were safe for service.

“While we know in isolation the K9’s cannon is safe, and in isolation the ammunition is safe, this testing makes sure they are compatible,” Major Kelleher said.

Once that is established, subsequent tests will collect ballistics data required to use the AS9 with the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems, used to calculate and coordinate firing.

Further testing will be conducted in Australia focused on protection of the vehicle from small arms fire and shrapnel.

“A coupon [metal sample] from the steel, of which the vehicle is built, is placed in a vice and a slug is shot into it,” Major Kelleher said.

“This is repeated against coupons of different thickness to understand the levels of protection.”

Blast testing was also recently conducted in Israel involving a full size AS9 hull fitted with crash test dummies, cameras and sensors inside.

An explosive charge was detonated at the base of the vehicle to imitate the effects of a land mine.

The results will inform design changes to ensure the vehicles provide the required protection and survivability for soldiers.

“The feedback we’re getting from other users is they are impressed by the maturity and ease of use of the platform,” Major Kelleher said.

“It is a big increase in range and lethality from the in-service towed howitzer, made possible by the longer cannon and higher rates of fire.

“For junior gunners and non-commissioned officers, it’s going to be a challenging but exciting step up to manage both a cannon and an armoured vehicle, likely with greater autonomy than they might have on a normal gun line.”

Elphinstone, a company on the north coast of Tasmania, will manufacture the hulls and turrets.

The first AS9 to be completed in Australia is expected to roll out the door by the end of 2025.

3 round burst capability?  Sounds good especially when you're talking about shooting and scooting.  Wonder how much time it takes to get off a "burst"?

Regardless its beyond me how you conduct maneuver warfare in a dispersed fashion with small units?  Imagine Desert Storm with that concept and you have a whole desert to operate in.  How would you conduct offensive operations with a widely dispersed force?  How do you concentrate power to breakthru defenses?

They talk about it but when asked to explain all you get is that we're gonna do it a different way!

Make it make sense.

US Army is so in love with the Stryker DVH that they ordered 300 more...

via Shepard Media

GDLS announced on 26 June that it had been awarded a $712.3 million order by the US Army for 300 Stryker DVH (Double Vee Hull) A1 vehicles.

This latest order falls under a five-year contract signed in 2020 that includes an option for a sixth year.

'The Stryker A1 features a 450hp engine, 60,000lb suspension, 910-amp alternator and in-vehicle digital network while continuing to provide unprecedented soldier survivability," said Gordon Stein, VP of US operations at GDLS.

In June 2018, it was first announced that the US Army had awarded GDLS a $258 million contract modification to upgrade 116 Stryker flat-bottom vehicles to A1 configuration.

The Stryker A1 builds upon the DVH configuration, providing improved survivability against mines and IEDs.

According to the US Army's FY2022 budget request, Stryker DVH A1s are produced through manufacturing entirely new vehicles and by exchanging components and mission equipment from older flat-bottomed Strykers onto newly fabricated DVHs.

I don't get it.  The Stryker is outdated yet the Army continues to buy it.  So many better offerings on the market even from GDLS that they could buy yet they stick to the Stryker like its their first love.

It does bring up another issue though.

If the Army sent the Ukrainians A1 Strykers without the DVH then that's almost criminal.  Is that why we're seeing so many MRAPs being used as straight up IFVs instead of simple troop transports?

French Military "Monday Motivational" Vid

Hmm. Highlighting (let me use the European nomenclature here) African members of their force in this. Wonder if they're sending a message that painting with a broad brush is a mistake OR its just a coincidence? Regardless pretty cool from my seat. Dude in dress is kinda bowed up too. Definitely been hitting those triceps.

ZSU-23-4M "Shilka" Soviet self-propelled anti-aircraft gun...art by Eugeny Knupfer via ART STATION

This showed up in my inbox and made me wonder. Have we seen this weapon used by the Russians? I know its old and probably replaced but it seems like the perfect tool to take down loitering and other low flying drones.

Leopard 2A6 is taking a beating...

I've seen several examples of Leopard 2A6's taking a beating in Ukraine. Same can be said for Bradley's too. It might be because they're being highlighted on social media but I can't help but think that the Turks didn't seem too pleased with their Leopard tanks and did massive upgrades to their M60s instead and used them extensively in combat against anti-tank missile equipped Kurdish rebels.

Her sight picture should open up to a big segment of the Republican party too!
