The Chinese people are paying a terrible price for their meteoric rise

Geez. I can't even imagine working in a place like that. Maybe there are spots in the West that mirror that shit but I kinda get all those suppressed reports of Chinese workers going postal (showing my age with that phrase huh).

Maduro says Venezuela is 'ready' to make deal with US on drugs and oil after military strikes

via Fox News

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said Thursday that his government is open to negotiating an agreement with the United States after months of American military pressure targeting drug trafficking networks tied to his government.

In a pre-taped interview with Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet that aired on state television, Maduro said Venezuela is "ready" to discuss a drug-trafficking deal with the U.S. He called on the countries to "start talking seriously, with data in hand."

"The U.S. government knows, because we’ve told many of their spokespeople, that if they want to seriously discuss an agreement to combat drug trafficking, we’re ready," he said. "If they want oil, Venezuela is ready for U.S. investment, like with Chevron, whenever they want it, wherever they want it and however they want it."

Here

Sounds real close to full capitulation.

Are the hawks so hungry to flex muscle that negotiation is no longer possible?  I hope not because if we're able to get what we want then its as close to perfect victory as anything I've seen in the past two decades.

A victim, tied in a tortuous position to the side of a truck, is about to be dragged to his death by Fascists during the Yekatit 12 massacre in Italian East-Africa (19 February 1937) via History Porn

Never heard of the Yekatit 12 Massacre but a quick search revealed some really heinous stuff.

As was said in the comments on this Reddit post, the Italians of that time deserved their own Nuremberg trial.  Japanese too.

In case you missed it the land war against Venezuela has already started

An attack against a port facility that resulted in a large explosion? Barely anyone notices? Yeah the land war has started. Just spitballing here but I'd guess either a strike from stealth aircraft (probably F-35s since plane trackers would tell us if a non-stealthy plane had flown near it) or we're seeing one of the Special Ops outfits hitting it with something heavy (heavy for man portable weapons).

Either way it doesn't matter.

The ground war is in full effect and if they're targeting port facilities then they probably have boots on the ground doing all kinds of covert shit.

Why the delay and why no firm announcement?

No need to disrupt 4th quarter earnings.  With the exception of gas prices (you can exclude that for the folks in California) the thing people are pissed about in the President's base is the cost of things.

Fully expect things to ramp up quickly this year.  By ramp up I mean a pressure campaign on the Venezuelan President.  Trump doesn't want to put troops on the ground but he does want regime change.

I don't have the timeline on how long the 22nd MEU has been hovering off the coast there but I'd bet that this will be done or a transition from an "invasion" type operation to a more Army led ground occupation op is what happens.

When is the 22nd done with their 9 month deployment?

The TAYFUN ballistic missile, developed by Turkey's ROKETSAN

I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand times. STOP SLEEPING ON TURKEY! Their defense industry is killing it. They're innovative, producing outstanding gear and they're gaining market share. In a couple more years people are gonna wake up and say "where did they come from" and it'll be too late.

SIGMA 155 Ro’em artillery system

Still don't understand why these type artillery systems are gaining traction. They're big as hell. They're slow firing (except for Archer they appear to be hand loaded). They're wheeled so they lack the mobility of tracked systems. They provide no protection against counterbattery fire in the form of armor for the firing team. Seems like a dead end to me but everyone seems to be buying them.

UK society cannot survive in this type of environment

If the defenders of the public are forced to tuck tail and run then the average citizen is open to slaughter by evil. Don't care what religion, nationality, creed or race the guy with the chainsaw represents. The only thing that matters is that he is a danger to the public and his ability to do this without consequence is powered by goverment decree. Bad laws lead to bad outcomes.

Happy New Year 2026

 Happy New Year to all!

I hope it's happy and productive and you achieve your goals.

I also hope you realize that...

*  Just like everyone celebrates an artificial construct not found in nature, that you understand that everyday is another day to set goals, be happy and push towards what you desire.

*  That everyday above ground is a gift.

*  That despite your personal circumstances there are people that would give everything to be where you're at right now.

Reset.

Refocus.

Lock in.

Everyday is the first day of the rest of your life!

China stages military drills around Taiwan to warn ‘external forces’....they're falling into our trap

 via Defense News

China’s military on Monday dispatched air, navy and missile units to conduct joint live-fire drills around the island of Taiwan, which Beijing called a “stern warning” against separatist and “external interference” forces. Taiwan said it was placing its forces on alert and called the Chinese government “the biggest destroyer of peace.”

Here

The drills are nothing.  The reaction to the arms sales are over the top and point to a couple of mistakes the Chinese have made in this mess.

#1  They imposed a deadline on themselves to accomplish reunification.  HUGE MISTAKE!  From my view of the Chinese people and culture they aren't the type to issue ultimatums or strict deadlines.

In this case they did and its pressurizing everything.  Imagine if they didn't put down a marker and simply said as soon as possible.

They could then build up their military slowly and efficiently.  Instead they're on a breakneck rush and every allied country in the region is on alert.

#2  They've thrown away the carrot and essentially limited themselves to only one course of action.  All around the world they've successfully used diplomacy, guile and sometimes trickery to achieve their goals.

To their credit the deed was done before anyone noticed.  They never gave themselves that option with Taiwan.  Perhaps its the success they had in Hong Kong that made them switch tactics.  Perhaps its the propaganda that Taiwan is simply a breakaway province and no one would care.  I don't know and it doesn't matter.

China has picked its course and is rushing full speed ahead with no off ramps due to their rhetoric.

#3  They didn't believe we had time to course correct.  They're only partially right on this one but being partially right isn't good enough to win a flawless victory.

Because of points 1 and 2 the allies in the Pacific are fully aware of the situation and taking action to correct things.  Should they have acted earlier?  You bet your ass but in this case late is better than nothing.

China doesn't have all the gear/tech in place yet.  Soonish but not yet.  Meanwhile we've had a couple of challenges appear that have turned the MIC to damn near full and leaders in the US and Japan (to a certain extent in S. Korea and Australia) are acting to plug gaps.

Have you noticed something else?

This is a bipartisan thing.  Even stupid war opponents like myself argue about the "what's" that are being done, not the issue that something SHOULD be done.

In this whole kerfuffle China has made missteps that are playing into our hands. Instead of acting calmly and rationally they've acted like a bully and alarmed the entire region.

If war comes and I hope it doesn't this will be an ugly shock to the system.

I don't think historians will be able to call a winner to be honest.  Thousands of lives lost, Taiwan reduced to rubble, China teetering and probably gonna have a military coup and America will in all likely hood withdraw from the world stage.

Everybody loses and loses big.

The weird thing is that China could have easily achieved its goal by being patient but it had to swing its dick around instead.
