Men Without Chests via Art Of Manliness Blog...

“We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.” —C.S. Lewis

Tyler Rogoway at the Drive Blog on the X-32 (what could have been)!

Story here.

I will continue to wonder.  Was the X-32 a better plane?  If it was chosen would we be facing the same issues?

We'll never know.

Eitan enters service with Nahal infantry brigade’s 50th Battalion

“It is a privilege for our brigade to get these new platforms, developed by engineers in Israel,” Maj. Liad Cohen, Technology and Maintenance Officer in the Nahal infantry brigade’s 50th Battalion, told JNS. The Nahal brigade is the first to receive the Eitan.

“This is the forefront of technology. These abilities give us superiority and real operational advantages,” he added. “It provides independence, lethality, mobility, and survivability. This is a very rapid armored vehicle,” Cohen added.

The Eitan can maneuver to distant destinations, and get soldiers there rapidly, he stated.  It can travel on and off road, through difficult terrains, and does not require slow-moving military trailers when moving on roads.

“Today, we have an early vehicle to conduct experiments,” Cohen said.  In April, drivers from the 50th Battalion underwent intensive training with the APC. They spent a week in operational driving conditions, and brought the Eitan to a battalion-wide training exercise. “We saw its abilities,” said Cohen.

Each Eitan vehicle carries 12 soldiers, moving them “to any arena that the state needs to reach to protect itself, and moving them quickly from their base to the border – to any border,” he added.

Cpl. Vlad Levitansky, a company commander in the 50th battalion of the Nahal brigade, said, “No one is prouder than me to receive into my ranks the most advanced IDF APC.  The Eitan brings with it a technological revolution, and will be a decisive vehicle in the next war.”

Levitansky said his soldiers are excited by the Eitan’s arrival, and “feel that their training and abilities have improved significantly.”

The Eitan’s ability to engage threats will include a range of weapons that can be attached and replaced on board, such as a powerful 30 mm automatic cannon.

An independent battalion

According to Cohen, the arrival of this armored vehicle is part of a bigger process, which is aimed at making the modern IDF battalion as independent as possible, able to conduct its own battlefield affairs.

“The amount of times spent in combat zones is growing. We want to be less dependent on the home front, and less dependent on the need to bring logistics from outside the battle zone,” Cohen said.

“This is the assumption on which we are building our combat doctrine,” he added. “We understand that the next war will not be like the last war. In the next war, we want a relevant vehicle that will deliver real advantages over the enemy.”

The Eitan will also be able to act as a military ambulance, evacuating the wounded away from the frontlines, due to its speed and size.

As time goes by, Cohen said, the Nahal brigade will seek to help deal with the few disadvantages that the APC still has.
Would like to hear what the "few disadvantages" that they're talking about.

Israeli Mantis Armored ATV (pics)...

Thanks to Might Zuk for the link!

Wow.  Thing almost looks more like a movie prop sci fi vehicle rather than the real thing.  Wonder how it performs.

Oh and have you noticed something?  This is the second Israeli manufacturer that has come out with an armored ATV.  They most know something about an upcoming Army solicitation.

Armed Forces Day? I didn't know this was a thing!

When did this happen?  Armed Forces Day is a thing?  Who knew!  I didn't.

This does bring up a point though.  It's a small rant so don't get it twisted...not against an "Armed Forces Day" but the entire convention in America.

I can't speak for the rest of the world but at least in the US I'm feeling a bit of "day" overload.  Everyone, everything, and I mean everyone/thing has a day.

I'm at a point of simply ignoring most of them which is kinda sad.  No I'm not saying its sad that I ignore most, just that its sad we have so many.

I guess dedicated days are like laws.  After a while you just get too many and the real work becomes to cut back on them.  I imagine to most of you this is like the old man yelling get off my lawn but the overload is real.  Sometimes fewer is more.

NATO Tiger Meet 2018...pic by Piotr Łysakowski

NATO Tiger Meet 2018 (NTM18) is hosted by the Polish Air Force 2nd Tactical Air Wing at Krzesiny Air Base near Poznan, Poland.
_______
Twenty-two flying squadrons from Allies Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom and Partners Austria and Switzerland as well as a NATO Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) plane – in total approx. 70 aircraft and ten helicopters – are scheduled to participate in the event.

Inform the uninformed on this one.

What is the purpose of Tiger Meet?

I get the impression its just an excuse to get a bunch of brightly colored aircraft together to drink beer.

Is that right or am I missing the training experience?

Sgt Major Kasal retired...Damn I thought he'd be Sgt Major of the Marine Corps!

Navy Cross recipient Sgt. Maj. Bradley Kasal, the Marine legend behind one of the most iconic images from the Iraq War, retired after 34 years of service to the Corps.
Fair winds and following seas, Sgt. Maj.
Damn.

I thought he'd be Sgt Major of the Marine Corps soon.  Still, despite my wishes it's definitely his call to make and I wish him well.

Win the world bro!  You deserve it.
