What happens if the USMC is laser focused on the Pacific & the other services are engaged in conflicts in other parts of the world? What happens to a USMC that sits out fights?

This is piggybacking off the earlier article that states that the USMC should laser focus on the Pacific.

Ok.

But what happens if the USMC is totally focused on the Pacific and war never comes but the US Army, US Air Force and US Navy are hookin' and jabbin' in every other clime and place?

What happens to a Marine Corps that has essentially sat out fights that the other services were participating in?

What is the danger of a military service that is incapable of fighting anywhere but in the Pacific?

If nothing else how do you justify not radically downsizing it to the size of the Royal Marines?

On a sidenote it does add a bit of clarity on why the Navy is so willing to let the amphibious fleet dip down to 24 ships.

If you're not sailing worldwide you can't justify 11 big decks along with 10 San Antonio class amphibs!

Berger will lose the fight over amphibs and he will lose the fight for the Corps.

Our Corps days are numbered.

Thanks Berger and your acolytes!

USN & USMC should ignore every other theater and focus solely on the Pacific...

 via Proceedings

What should be deprioritized, then, is almost everything else (save the nuclear deterrent). This includes naval operations and posture in theaters other than Asia, including Europe and the Middle East, as well as capacity and presence for its own sake rather than warfighting efficacy. The basic point is that U.S. naval forces should prepare to mount an effective and politically credible denial defense of Taiwan, along with the nuclear deterrent needed to back it up. Everything else should be scaled down, pushed to the back, and, if need be, eliminated. This includes symbolic or assurance-oriented presence operations not connected to a robust blunt layer, as former Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work has compellingly argued.8

The reason for all this stems from a simple proposition: The main purpose of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps is to fight and win the nation’s most important wars at a reasonable cost to the American people—not policing the sea lanes, showing the flag, or “facilitating—or deranging international trade.”9 By far the most significant threat to Americans’ prosperity, freedom, and security is China dominating Asia and from that position, the global economy. The Navy and the Marine Corps ought to be clear that their overriding responsibility lies in preventing this baleful outcome through a denial defense along the first island chain, and all other missions unconnected to this goal must take a back seat to that.

The Sea Services must now be laser focused on this core task to make the best use of the enormous resources the American people allocate to defense, as the Marine Corps is so commendably doing. Americans already spend a far greater proportion of their wealth on defense than almost any of their allies. It is therefore incumbent on the defense establishment to make the best use of that money as possible.

Here

FUCK ME!

THEY'RE FINALLY COMING OUT AND SAYING IT!  THE "NEW" MARINE CORPS IS BEIGN BUILT FOR ONE FOE, ONE THEATER!

Simply amazing.

So why did they lie earlier?  Are they that wrapped up in this concept that they will lie to fellow Flag Officers, the Officers and Marines they lead, the retirees and veterans that have a stake in the Marine Corps future?

Oh and they're still wrong.

China will find, fix and destroy every part of the Stand In Force at the very start of hostilities.

The US will busy rescuing survivors on a whole host of islands (not to mention the ships they take out at sea...probably the largest rescue mission in the history of military operations...Dunkirk will look like a picnic), its national command will be deciding what to do, and Chinese Marines will be conducting an amphibious assault on Taiwan.

By the time we get our shit together the Chinese will do a Red version of Mt Suribachi and the Chinese Flag will fly over that island (it'll probably be the size of a building).

Just a little mudballing here...Are we ready for multiple crisis? Can we handle the current war, a flareup in the Middle East, a renewed insurgency in Africa & China menacing Taiwan at the same time?

It just occurred to me that it will be EASY to stress test the US military to see how it could handle multiple crisis in different parts of the world.

The worst part is that I think we're seeing the baby steps of China/Russia doing just that.

Think about it.

Assad just visited UAE and talks are taking place to re-establish ties between Syria and Saudi Arabia.

Russia/Ukraine war continues unabated and the only legit peace plan (put forward by the Chinese) was rejected before Washington even read it.

African countries across that continent are pushing back against the LGBTQ agenda and perhaps more importantly they're beginning to fight against some of the economic policies being pushed by Europe and the US.

China continues to flex against Taiwan's defenses.

Could we handle a big fight between Israel vs Iran with Hezbollah joining in while at the same time defending our forces in Syria against attacks from Iranian proxies, Syrian Forces and at times even Turkish military?

While all that's going on the Russians launch a massive new offensive?  Add to the above an insurgency against say...Kenya kicks off at fever pitch?

We're gonna run out of forces fast.

SOCOM is gonna be hip deep in all that.  An Army Division will be deployed to Europe to "reassure" our allies, you'll probably need to put another light infantry division ready to help in Africa and I don't even know what you would do with the issue in the Middle East and Pacific.

Oh and you're gonna probably put an Expeditionary Air Wing over each of those divisions at least!

This probably doesn't make sense to any of you and I can't explain it better right now but for those that do get what I'm trying to put down what do you think?

Unintended consequences of NOT thinking....Russia Turns to China’s Yuan in Effort to Ditch the Dollar

Why is this a big deal now (especially when the article came out late Feb)?

Because its all coming clearly into view.

Think about it.  The US bullies Saudi Arabia, makes talk about green energy in a timeframe that is insanely fast but makes clear that (thru policy) they're willing to hurt its own citizens to make it happen.

The sanctions against Russia don't need explanation but add to it the attempt to blame them for the pipeline explosion.

The rest of the BRIC nations I can't quite get a handle on...especially Brazil but I'm betting that a multi-polar world is more appealing to the current leadership than what we're seeing now.

A certain reader has talked about the Petro-Dollar long before I globbed onto it.

If this hits the way some are thinking then the Petro-Dollar is dead. The American economy is in a hurt locker and economic theory reverts to the base model its always been.

The only good in all this?

Globalization will die.

I guess I tossed away alot of "delicious delicacy" when I was working on grandpa's farm...

🔥 Sometimes, if heat and humidity are high, corn can be infected by a fungus that causes the kernels to expand and turn into the delicious delicacy known as huitlacoche, usually eaten in quesadillas and other corn-based foods. tortilla.

PLA Battalion commander Major Chen Honjun fatally injured(Later KIA) after confrontation with Indian Army troops in Galwan Valley

Chinese leadership is putting their troops in a terrible position.

Indian troops have as strong or EVEN STRONGER martial tradition, they're bigger physically and to be quite honest, the idea of fighting with melee weapons fits perfectly with their culture/mentality.

They really need to go back to the drawing board on the idea that banning firearms will keep this from zooming out of control and work out some type of agreement or this will be a Vietnam 2.0 for them, except the Indians will be giving the terrible lesson to them.

If they can't do any of the above then they should think more like taking on horse cavalry from back in the day.

They need those long pikes to slow down the rush instead of absorbing body blows.

To the Major, rest in peace and to his family may his memory be a blessing.

Remember the "Sir who am I" article? That was the beginning of the purge!

 via War On The Rocks

After identifying this comprehensive vision of what marines of the future will be and do, publish an authoritative strategy outlining this multi-layered identity with explicit prioritization and an implementation plan. Staff this amongst your general officers, senior executive service members, and key colonel-level combat developers, listen to their feedback, and assess their willingness to implement it. Then retire those who will refuse to say “aye aye, sir” and execute your vision. Our nation does not have the time for half-hearted incrementalism or the frozen middle. Please don’t put us through another Marine Corps Force 2025 where we tried to decide how we should organize, train, and equip without a clear identity. With the strategic guidance now available from our civilian leadership, which was not published in 2016 when Marine Corps Force 2025 began, a clear identity is now possible and represents a once-in-a-century chance to re-invent the Marine Corps.

Here

Wow.

I didn't realize what I was reading way back then.  This guy not only laid the groundwork for the rollout of FD2030 but he made the call to prayer.

This dude is an insurgent.

A true believer.

He will not be denied and he will stroll into the depths of hell to see this implemented.

I'm sure his faith has been rewarded and I'm sure he's been promoted.

The Chowder Society thinks they're up against a misguided concept.

They're wrong.

Those that support FD2030 are damn near religious zealots. They can't be reasoned with and the only way they will alter course is when they see the bodies being stuffed into bags.

The Marine Corps is fucked.  A small group has decided to change it forever.

God help us all.

Just plain wow.  Dude has a helmet, K-bar, real deal wheels, a freaking bull bar, ammo can and camo nets draped over it...but then has a toy dog looking out the window.  Got to be Army National Guard.  They can't park either.

VMM-261 drops cargo in the desert

The caption on this reads how this will allow VMM-261 to operate globally. HQMC is really pushing the meme that although they've turned the entire Marine Corps into a recon/counter recon outfit with little to no offensive capability that somehow it will still be relevant worldwide? Amazing. It also points to the issue of the amphibious ships. How can you justify needing 21 San Antonio class sized ships when you will fill the well decks with everything BUT Marine Combat Vehicles? For once the Navy got it right. Then concept will last at best a decade before its tossed. What will be the next hotness? The realization that the USMC needs to be capable of seizing Chinese islands...both manmade and natural as a means to blind them to our fleets activities. IF!!!!!! If the Rangers don't beat us to that punch, along with the SEALs and even MARSOC.

Yeah about Jan 6. The more we learn the more bullshit comes out...

Thanks to Cogitans Iuvenis for the link! This whole drama was a setup.

It continues to be a setup.

This should be grounds for immediate dismissal of the case but won't.

The average American should be very concerned.  If the federal govt ever decides to come after you, you're done. Innocent or not. Criminal misconduct by the prosecutors or not.

The latest photos of the ALTAY tank.

Berger is shedding assets & getting them sold overseas that even if the next Commandant wants to reverse course it'll damn near be impossible...

The M1 tanks to Ukraine will definitely be former USMC models. These AH-1Zs are definitely former USMC models. The timing on this is perfect for the FD2030 zealots. They get their fucked up concept baked into the Marine Corps and there is no possible reversal because all the gear is sold rather than mothballed for the future.

This trap is gonna be the end of the Marine Corps and this tie in with the Navy will see the seat on JCS go the way of the dinosaurs.

FD2030 is no longer a concept. Its a religion for these people and they'll accept no criticism of their God.

That's why Berger and his clowns won't accept criticism of their God.  It's why they won't listen to reasoned debate.  They can't. This has become their end all be all.

One thing is certain.

Giving one person the power that the Commandant is currently wielding is dangerous for any organization.

If the Marine Corps survives Berger then we've GOT TO MAKE SURE that the power of the Commandant is scaled back.

"What if all of the presidents were comic book villains?"
