He likes it!

Just watching and reading the latest on the Navy SEAL rescue of the hostages in Africa...

I watched the coverage of the President by Chris Mathews on MSNBC and now I'm getting a bit concerned.

The press is fawning over the President's decision...Mathews is going bonkers over a clip in which the President is congratulating the SecDef telling him "good job."

And we have a Commander in Chief that has no experience with the military -- and he has just been successful on two high risk military operations.

DON'T GET ME WRONG...I'M EXTREMELY PLEASED THAT THESE OPERATIONS WERE SUCCESSFUL!

What concerns me is that this type of success can lead to the type of over confidence that will lead to tragedy.  Somewhere, someone is thinking about laying a trap for our guys.  Somewhere, someone is going to try for another BlackHawk down incident.

If a blogger in the backwoods can consider that possibility then I hope someone at SOCOM is considering it too.

And I hope SOCOM has someone with the balls to say no, when they're asked to cross a bridge too far.

  2. because i like to hear all sides of a story. all points of view. i believe the right spins as hard as the left .... the only candidate that makes sense to me is Ron Paul...i'll vote for him but don't believe he can win. Republican policies led to this global market place thats killing US manufacturing...Democrat policies led to a welfare state that killing the soul of America...

    but thats just my opinion.

  4. "Liberal propaganda filth". Wow. Filth ? It kind of says it all. Someone's been watching too much Faux News. GWB stopped looking for OBL years ago and Obama got it done. Now the same team is rescuing hostages in Somalia. Doesn't quite fit into the wingnut narrative does it ? Watch out, your head may explode - the President is a Democrat, in charge and hurting the terrorists. Meanwhile the GOP field is a bunch of clowns.

  5. uh...don't get too happy. that same man that you're lavishing praise on is by all appearances a conceited, ego centric bastard that will do whatever it takes to get back in office.

what i left out of my article is that liberal presidents generally (Bush Jr was the republican exception) like to tinker with the military and play with it like a toy. that's why its going to be easy to see SOCOM pushed too far by a Commander in Chief that likes the power that comes with the ability to send men into harms way at his whim.

Obama is the last thing our republic needs if we are to remain great. and the sad thing about it is that the wingnuts know this to be the case...thats why you hear so many calls for Hillary or Bill to run for office.

  6. I'm more worried about the administration declassifying highly sensitive but successful special operations missions just so they can score points before election day. This rescue is great news, but I have a feeling every few months or so now there's gonna be a big story about a successful special operations raid. Do you not think at least a little suspicious that the news of this broke during the State of the Union Speech?

  7. Nope and I wouldn't shocked if a few more scandels show up as well. Socom has always been active, we all know it.normally we find years and years down the road Just now the world is going to start seeing what theyve been actually doing and that leads to a opponent using that info with modern day time lines

and thats the real issue. fuck the politics. some Iranian...some taliban idiot...some african warlord is watching all this and you can bet that the other hostages that are being held will be under increased watch....you can bet that they'll put out some disinformation in an effort to lure our guys into a well laid kill box and we'll have a national tragedy.

you're more than right to suspect some foolishness. i have no idea how NAVY SEALs operate. but i do know that unless they have some gear that i don't know about, that parachute operations are inherently risky. its so easy to come up gimpy that its insane...and these guys jumped in. the only thing that helps mitigate the risks for the whole thing is that they were right next door to Djibouti so help was real close. as a matter of fact AH-1Z's flew cover so i would imagine that they had a robust reinforcement setup but on the same night of the presiden't address? funny business.

  9. Hi Sol, long time...

On the issue of another Gothic Serpent: YES it not only has been considered but I guarantee that the prospect of a repeat keeps every SOCOM operations commander up at least 2 nights of the week.
Dont forget that guys of McRaven's age, that is the main operational and planning core of SOCOM now, were most likely frontline grunts in 1992. They lived through the tragedy, they learnt those lessons and no doubt the mistakes and triumphs of the day are fresh in their minds.
Don't think for a moment that they can get dragooned into an operation; especially by hack politicians. These guys have more spine in them than the whole of Capitol Hill put together, they can hold their own.

  10. If this would have been done under Bush he would have strutted up
and beat his chest as he told the world what a great commander in chief he was - never mind that he had to turn in his wings and resign his commission because he couldn't piss in a bottle during annual class II physical. Obama has stepped up the war on the Taliban and al-Qeada, saved the Capatain of the Marask Alabama, rescued these two hostages Tuesday, and smoked friggin Bin Laden. Did you ever hear a word from the GOP about "good job"? Fux? Well, come on.
The operation was in and out and our Navy guys (not squids) performed flawlessly. How about a salute for all involved including the Commander in Chief?

  11. i already congratulated the frogs involved. oh and while you're casting aspersions let me remind you that while Bush was "refusing to piss in a bottle", that Obama was smoking dope.

both leaders are fatally flawed. if you believe otherwise then you're not looking at things objectively.

as a side note, if you look at plans for the future then i believe that we're going to shortly see SOCOM broken. not by enemy action but by extended, deployments. i also foresee a lack of resources to support them in the manner they're accustomed to and you have the makings of a BlackHawk down...its coming.

    1. Obama was a civilian and Bush was a blue-suiter 0-2
OFFICER. I am sorry, but there is one hell of a differnce.

    2. not really. if an officer commits murder is it any less serious than a civilian committing murder? i don't think so. and to be perfectly honest how many OFFICERS do you think smoked dope during that time? i bet quite a few.

but instead of confronting my assertion that both men are flawed, you seek to once again demonize Bush with a special kind of "evil".

we're screwed, the nation is in a tailspin and yeah...Bush started it, Obama is continuing it and he'll probably get another bite at the apple.

      congratulations.
