4 Servicemen died in Afghanistan but the military wants your eyes on this?

4 Servicemen died in Afghanistan.  3 by enemy gunfire, and 1 by an explosion.

But what are we getting from military Public Affairs Offices?

We're getting inundated with news of the "feel good" story of the moment....the Pakistan relief effort.

We should all be ashamed.  You and I for not pushing our military's Public Affairs Officers to turn back on the tap of information from the war zone and the military for embargoing news of the conflict.

Here are a couple of photos of what THEY want your attention on.
UPDATE.
My buddy Marcase seems to doubt me on the 'lack' of news and information coming out of Afghanistan.  Well consider this.  The above photos are what we're seeing now.  Those below are what was coming out in April and May.

You be the judge.  Also consider that since the McCrystal firing, the info has been beyond sparse...we aren't seeing it.

  1. I can't believe it's intentional. I mean, (foreign) media not to mention the blogosphere will report this regardless; the backfire from witholding this kind of news is a definite career killer.

    RIP to the fallen.

  2. Well, if the problem is arms/fighters coming from across the border, then relief efforts across the border matter a lot more than what any grunt is doing north of the border.

Just like in Iraq, the military is just to provide the security to stabilize things somewhat, but can't/won't win the war unless the US can convert to an imperial model (so far we haven't).

Hearts&Minds which leads to viable local government is the only successful path. See Also: Iraq War

  3. a hearts and minds campaign isn't warfare, its a modified international assistance program. even if its delivered at the point of a gun its still a glorified welfare program.

warfare is about killing the enemy. remember, counter insurgency is born from the confusion of the 60's with its real father being the great society and its mother being Lyndon Johnson.

if we were really engaged in warfare the way that it has historically been fought then the USAF with UAVs and SOCOM could contain the threat and the rest of the forces could pull out.

instead we have a muddled mess.

    hearts and minds?

its as bogus as a three dollar bill.

oh and as far as Iraq is concerned....talk to me after they form a government.

  4. i am less confident they will form a government, i think you may slide back into a dictatorship, see kurdistan pull away and have a four way war, sunni areas against shiites, shiites against kurds and sunnis, kurds against shiites and turkey.
