Unrelated but I just heard that the USAF is retaining the tooling for the F-22 and might be ordering new build F-15 & 16's if there is a reduction or shortfall in the F-35 program that would result in a fighter gap.
ReplyDeletei heard that but the version i got was that lockheed was retaining the tooling.
ReplyDeletesounds good until you look at the current state of the F-22 program. the plane is aerodynamically and in stealth very potent but when it comes to its avionics its woefully lacking when compared to the F-35.
sad but true.
the F-22 is dead as far as new production is concerned.
Longshot but if they did restart production they could do a B model with the updates and changes.
ReplyDeletei could live with an updated f-22 but i'd want a two seat version to control uav's and conduct deep airstrikes....enlarged wings so that it can compete with the f-35 in range....improved avionics....and whatever else is envogue in the next 10 years.
