New to me. Enclosure for NLOS missiles on LCS-2.

Totally new to me.  I assumed that these missiles would be stored at the stations occupying the 30mm cannon spots.  I really thought it would be one or the other (as far as those weapons were concerned), now I know better.

    Well, the theory was that all slots were interchangeable, so they could be filled with either 30mm, NLOS or other kit.

    I wonder if the USN will continue with NLOS; this cover looks large enough for an 8-cell Mk41 VLS.

    I've been assuming the Navy will takeover NLOS ever since it was "canceled". Didn't the same thing happen with APKWS?

    The Navy has taken over NLOS. Done deal. APKWS is a different animal. It started out as a private industry project, the Marine Corps jumped on it, NAVAIR ran with it to development and NAVY Acquisition is procuring it with NAVAIR for the different services---Army and Air Force are now going to use it.

    What I meant of course was the question if the USN would still settle for a short-range PGM - which is NLOS - if it can get ("shorty" tactical) Mk41 VLS, especially when there are voices that promote to equip production LCS with the "mini AEGIS" SPY-1F or other ISR/TA variant.

    It's a real, real shame NLOS-LS failed initially, as it would be a terrific force multiplier, especially for the USMC as they still lack organic (first wave) artillery.

    APKWS actually started out as an Army project with Navy/Marine involvement. It was cancelled for the usual performance-related issues and then continued by industry. The Marines picked it up as APKWSII and that has produced the units now in production.

    Marcase: Enough deck space for Mk41, but not enough space beneath (nor support) for the Self-defense length (SDL) variant.
