AWESOME! BOEING WINS!

Ares Blog is reporting that Boeing won the Tanker contest!

Absolutely awesome.

Not because I necessarily care at this point about the contest itself...but because the Air Force actually followed the rules of the competition this time.  There is no way that two dissimilar aircraft should have been allowed to compete.

This was the KC-X comp.

Not the KC-Y.

There is no way that the A-330 met the requirements that the USAF laid down.

This my friends is a win for the rules.

  2. well not really.

this program is years behind schedule.

Sweetman might have a point if EADS goes under...and by that I mean decides to get out of the Military Aircraft market...

it remains to be determined...i'm more fired up about the rules being followed but we'll see.

What a load of absolute garbage.
Whilst I am glad to see the end of this dogfight,it was obvious to anyone with sense that Boeing was going to be given the contract.
For all the publicity giving EADS the edge does anyone really think that the US would give a multi billion dollar contract to a foreign firm?
From the moment Boeing objected to EADS first win then the writing was on the wall.
Just get on and build the bloody things now and stop frigging around

  4. michael,

your comment is off the mark.

everyone...myself included...thought that EADS had this in the bag.

we have an administration (much like the last) that believes in the global market place and has shown no inclination at all to protect US industry.

this was far from a 'done deal'...

  5. Sol,
I am not trying to be bloody minded but I really must disagree with you,the lobbying that has gone on has been at times bitter and from what I have seen/read the US politicians in the end reverted to appealing to national pride and national fears in that a non US company was somehow going to be the benificiary of US taxpayers dollars.
Myself I am English and I state that specificaly as I have no wish to be classed as a European,so as far as the EADS bid is concerned I am completely nuetral.
Having said that I still say that giving a non US company one of the largest military contracts to date would have been politicaly unacceptable to the US public and this issue was played upon.
Also as someone who is interested in the US and you will correct me if I am wrong, wouldn't it be benificial if Boeing was to move some of its production away from Seattle to Alabama.
One of the points of the EADS bid was to take jobs to the South where I am led to believe they are desperatly needed.

  6. Gotcha, that's what I was referring too. I'm thankful for the small victories with this pitiful administration, cause thats all we're getting right now. Thanks for the additional info!

  7. It is a foregone conclusion that Boeing will win. All that ruckus and lobbying, what a waste of time.
