Failure captured in a picture.

Take a look at the above pic.  If that doesn't illustrate the failure of the JIEDDO.  Two Marines are dismounted sweeping a road for mines.

Meanwhile behind them are Force Protection Cougar(?) and Oshkosh M-ATV MRAPs.

No protection.

Nothing.

Just two brave Marines walking the ground because some bureaucrats didn't do the job.

Pathetic.

  1. I'm just going to point out that, maybe they got a hit on something and are tracking it down, looks like a route clearence group.

  2. On the series "Bomb Patrol Afghanistan" the Navy EOD's had to sweep the ground on a regular basis. As the previous comment states, they look like they are tracking down a hit.
Don't get me wrong though, with all that machinery in the background, it makes no sense that one of those machines couldn't do the same job and offer the protection of the armor.

  3. None of those vehicles are equipped with detection equipment are they? So using one of them would involve driving along and waiting for the bang. At least with 2 men dismounted searching they have a chance of finding the IED first.

...Although obviously it would be better using a vehicle actually outfitted for clearance ops. But they're in high demand in Afghan, they can't be everywhere at once.

  4. as much money as we've blown on that backwards country you would think that we would be able to equip each and every unit with detection/anti-ied kit.

maybe if we stopped nation building and tried to win a war we could do so, and thats the failure of COIN...it turns into a national welfare system for the country that we're fighting in.

winning hearts and minds is bullshit.
