Foxhound Patrol Vehicle in Afghanistan

I would so love this vehicle as a JLTV candidate.  We could retire MRAPs, neck down our inventory and still provide protection against IEDs.  The Brits outsmarted everyone with this...lets see how they run with the ball ---especially since they've invented something new.  Not quite an MRAP, not quite a Patrol Vehicle but tougher than a HUMVEE and able to fulfill all its roles.  They'll flub it up (along with General Dynamics) but its a winner.

  1. Britain needs to get working on all the possibilities its modular payload offers now if they really want to maximise this vehicle. But I do agree it looks like a damn good vehicle, lets hope the market saturation for MRAPs and protected vehicles doesn't drown it out.

  2. well the vehicle is a winner. if you look at the market there are a bunch of HUMVEE type variations of vehicles...even the British Lynx, Puma whatever that modern Humvee is should be sold off and these bought instead.

what really kills me is that this should have competed in the canadian tactical patrol vehicle competition...its damn near perfect and right sized. oh and for grunts you can't beat the comfort and security from being able to be heads out while on patrol.

i see great things ahead for it.

  3. Sol, I agree. Not sure what vehicle you're talking about but if you can narrow it down I might be able to tell you how likely it is that the vehicle will be a UOR and whether it is likely to become a core program (like Foxhound has already become after starting off as a UOR itself).

It is possible that whatever vehicle you mean isnt being bought into the core program and IS being replaced by Foxhound.

  4. oh, i was talking about a canadian competition. they were looking for a recon vehicle, troop carrier and a logistics vehicle that was protected against IEDs. why the UK didn't send one over is beyond me but the textron tapv won the contest against force protections timberwolf, bae's rg-35 and oshkosh tapv.

the foxhound would have wiped the floor with them.
