ReplyDeleteSol, dogs are considered particularly unclean in that part of the world. I imagine I'd have the same reaction if I saw someone letting a rat or a skunk lick their face. It's more an 'Ew! Why the heck is he letting that dog lick him?' than 'Death to the godless American!'

Exactly, and thats a problem.
Because they dont think, "oh, thats a bit weird", they think "thats disgusting, thats sub human, I dont want my kids talking to that man, I want that man out of my village."
That's fair enough. You're allowed to want someone you think is disgusting out of your home if you don't like what they're doing, whether you're Afghani, American or Martian.
ReplyDeletethe point is this. what most Westerners consider simply humane, and a no brainer...being kind to dogs, is frowned on by most Afghans. additionally if they're going to use the excuse that cultural differences are the cause of these green on blue incidents then it'll never stop because most western troops will never kick dogs just for the fun of it.

Thank you all for having debates over my photo, but to be frank the kids in Afghanistan have no education and do not understand Western culture at all. Also before you get your minds boggled over a cultural mis-understanding, this would not lead to a geen-on-blue! Only one of the may kids in the area had a face of confusion, but I'm assuming you failed to notice.
