Ronda Rousey: Cute but she'd kick your ass.

Saw her on my MMA feed.  Supposedly Dana is about to give the girls a try in the UFC...especially since its gaining traction in StrikeForce.  I'm not sure though.  Women's boxing is only see every four years and its been around for years.  Rousey is suppose to have skills...check out this vid...

See how she passes guard and mounts...and then just when Tweet thought she got out, she transitioned to an arm bar.

Fucking Sweet!  I originally was gonna go with her interview on Jim Rome's show but this is better.

  1. I'm not into watching pretty chicks (or any for that matter) getting their faces mashed in? Maybe they're thinking this can sell to the wrestling crowd,(and 'cough' lesbians)but wrestling is fake...this on the other hand is something those wrestling guys may not like.

  2. That is one bad bitch. And she's not bad to look at either. Look up her fight against Julia Budd and see how ruthless Ronda can be.

She has broken the mold of the boring girl fighter... she's broken a few arms too.....

  3. Rousey is unique, being attractive and feminine, yet a badass. Problem is combat sports reward masculinity. So there's a huge incentive to use steroids, testosterone, and the like to gain an advantage. Tons of male fighters use PEDs, and the edge gained is even greater for women.

Rousey's style, ie the armbars, is also elegant in a way that just mashing people in the face isn't.

So Rousey is great, but there aren't many other women to fight her. And the other women tend to be known steroid users or just really mannish by genetics. There's some interest in seeing the pretty judo girl beat up the ultra-butch man-women, I guess. But almost nobody wants to see women get their faces pulverized into mishapen bloody messes.

There's a reason the most popular women's sport is tennis where there's more a focus on endurance and hand-eye coordination and less on upper body strength. Also they compete in mini-skirts and it's non-contact.

Compare that to the WNBA, which is run as a money-losing (tens of millions) PR charity case by the NBA. WNBA has tall, strong women -- who dress like men in baggy shorts and bang against each other for rebounds. NBA forces its broadcast partners to air WNBA games, otherwise they wouldn't even be televized.

Tennis and LPGA are the only commercially successful year in, year out womens pro leagues. And the LPGA has been in steep financial decline ever since the Koreans started dominating.

Olympics and the World Cup tap nationalism every 4 years. Women's tennis is really the only annual pro women's league that is a success. It also smartly is run alongside the male tournaments. Wimbledon is held for men and women at the same time. Same for the other 3 majors. They smartly don't try to stand separately from the men.

    1. i couldn't say it better myself. but the UFC supposedly tests for PEDs so i think they can keep the juice heads at bay. if the can follow the lead of womens fitness and make it so they stay feminine and yet have the kind of bout that you see in the vid i can see it possibly taking off. did you notice that these ladies went right at it. guys are circling for at least a minute into most fights measuring each other but not these two not in this one. plus girls have been going at it in the tough enuff fights for a while and they're big on the side circuit.

if they do it right i'll watch it. but as soon as i see apes in capes start climbing in the ring to battle real women then i'm out.

  4. What I think Dana is going to do is only try one weight class and just try and build it up around his new star Rousey. Her judo is very good and she takes everyone down quickly and has won all her 6 fights in the first round, all armbar's. Some people say they don't want to watch women fight but if it's a good fight I bet some will get won over. It's a business so either they make money off it or not.

One thing that might help is more women are watching MMA. I see it when I'm out watching a fight and some of the women have some knowledge of what's going on. If women want to have fun fighting, or just watching it, I think that's great and hope they eventually can get paid to do it.
