If the Republicans were smart they'd let the fiscal cliff last awhile.

Head over to CDR Salamander's house to read his write up on the fiscal cliff situation and those poor bastards in New York's reaction to it...but it dawns on me.

If the Republicans were smart they would fight for cuts...and if they couldn't get them then they'd simply let the fiscal cliff stew for a couple of months.

It would be painful for mostly BLUE states.

You know.

Those Democrat controlled states with the highest tax burden from local, state and now federal taxes.

Those states that have in some cases artificially inflated pay scales to support all that extra government...and services....

If the Republicans were smart they could turn this around and make this a Democrat problem.  As it is now though.  Everything remains the same.  Economic troubles are still number one on the plate.  The administration can try and spin it that everything is ok but everyone that has a brain cell knows better.

Syria is sizzling and ready to explode.  Afghanistan is still a mess.  Egypt is confused, Libya in a daze and Iran still stubborn.

Obama care still has to be implemented, the EPA is making enemies of energy production and the administration is confused on the fraking issue.

All that and they're trying to do gun control too?

I don't think so.

  1. Taxes are going to rise on everyone (including the middle class) if they don't agree to extending them for the middle class.

Regular Republicans (not Tea Party guys) are worried that 2014 is coming, and coupled with Romney's blow out, and their failure to take the Senate, they're nervous about more losses if they get blamed.

The middle class doesn't get it, and the media isn't going to help in that case either.

  3. The public can blame any floggin' body they please....Obama won...their taxes went up...now the time to pay the piper has come and they have realized too late the bill is for them to pay and their children and their grandchildren.
My advice is, pay your taxes on time and in full cash no checks or cards.
Pay up and smile while chanting Obama won, Obama won, Obama won so why am I crying.

    1. hay zebra,

what exactly is obama to do?

clinton left office, after acheiving a fiscal surplus, bush enter office, during the good times, enacts policies, limiting the taxes, for the rich & middle classes, while not cutting, benefits.

this was the time, to leave a cushion, for the bad times.

then 9/11 occurs, huge monies spent on credit, tax cuts continue, let the good times role!!!!

here taxes, unfortunately, should have been raised.

the crash occurs, just as bush leaves office, obama looks at his grim choices, cut spending, leading the economy, into a depression, never seen since the 30's.

increase taxes, no support there from the conservatives.

spend the money like there's no tomorrow, untill things improve, then increase taxes, reduce spending, a few years after the worst is over...... hopefully.

dont get me wrong labour in the u.k. screwed the uk, just as bad, but, an unbridled, cutting of spending during the height of economic gloom isn't doing any good, just look at greece.

  7. well anon,

set me straight, if i'm wrong, i'm not sure of my facts or it's name, we call it the commons, you call it senate?, i think? isn't that reforming on the 4th, with more democrats taking seats? away from republicans?

thats based on the thinest info possible, so i'm probably wrong.

if you want your economy to lurch back into recession, go right ahead, otherwise do it sensibly, make a deal, quick, confrontational politics, like this do no one any good.

in time, taxes have to go up, spending has to go down, no 2 ways about it, but such a shock, could flat-line your recovering economy.

If neo-cons, do hinder this, Obama will smile all the way too a third term, lol. if he could, that is, he gets too blame them for the biggest cut to the military, taxes going up, millions on the bread line destitute.

there is no upside for the conservatives, in this, when the masses force them back to the table, there position will be weak.

    obama wins
