Sexual Assault in the military?

Wow.

It showed up as a big issue in Hagel's confirmation hearing.

I'm of two minds on this.

First.  Geez.  Get the offenders out, slam the bastards in jail, throw away the key and chemically castrate them while you're at it.

But...

We're about to place  women in combat units?  We're expecting women to close with, and destroy the enemy by hand to hand combat if necessary?

Like I said I'm of two minds on this.  It doesn't make sense that we're about to put women into the  most macho, masculine, roughest parts of the military while at the same time the Commandant is admonishing male Marines to protect female Marines?

The world is upside down.  It doesn't make sense.  I just don't get it.

  1. You don't understand that it is possible for men, even "macho, masculine" marines, to serve alongside women without sexually harassing them and also to report the neanderthals that do sexually harass them?

I think Sol is getting at the fact that enemy forces will specifically target female soldiers, who will be taken prisoner, and will be publicly, violently, and repeatedly sexually assaulted.

Female marines cant complain they are unable to stop a motorpool driver from pinching their bums, but also claim to can engage and defeat enemy soldiers at bayonet range.
Well, not if they expect anyone to take them seriously of course....

  3. I understand what you're saying Solomon, but I have to respectfully disagree. For me the sexual assault issue is about protecting your own. They always talk about soldiers/Marines being "brothers." If there are females in your unit then by extension those are you sisters. You want another solider/marine pinching your sister's ass? I sure as hell wouldn't.

    1. i can't fight my biological brothers battles. if another dude pinches his ass i expect him to knock the bastard out. if my brother is in a Infantry Battalion with me then that same rule applies but times 100. if i have to protect someone in my unit in garrison then they do me no good in combat. if you're talking about our Corpsman then that's different...we take care of Doc cause Doc takes care of us...but most Corpsmen I know are good on the trigger...but if you're talking about another grunt and that grunt has ovaries and we're all being told that we have to protect that grunt with ovaries then how is our unit not weakened?

true equality requires true responsibility. you can't say you're equal to men then demand special protections. but i guess you can. that's what the President, and the Commandant and the Joint Chiefs of Staff are saying. oh and I could care less aabout public opinion polls. the American people are morons. they know nothing about the military and have never served, have no understanding of it outside of tv. blackwidow kicks ass on the avengers movie but in real life a 130 pound female would get her ass kicked by a 200 pound male....and the legal system would be much tougher on the male for striking her. there is no legal system in combat.
