A tale of two agencies...FBI vs. Boston Metro Swat.

Its probably (most definitely) not a fair comparison...the sample size is extremely small, but little things count when it comes to people assessing professionalism.
Above you see an FBI Agent.  Gear is right he looks ready for the fight.  I don't know the guy from Adam, but a quick glance tells me that he isn't exactly someone I would want to fuck with...or if I did, I'd better pack a sandwich cause its gonna go more than one round.
PIC REMOVED BECAUSE OF A CLAIM OF OWNERSHIP...IF IT AIN'T OPEN SOURCE THEN IT DOESN'T GO ON MY BLOG!!!
Boston Metro Swat is pictured above.  Not going to go into details, but suffice it to say that if he was to go hands on I'd feel fairly confident that I'd own his weapon, his helmet and anything else that I'd want.

What's the point?  The point is this.  Who would you trust to respond to your call for help looking at the photos above?

  1. None. The second one would be a danger; the first one, busy.

    Take care.

    1. understood! but you get my point. if we're at a point where help is needed the FBI guy looks much more capable in my opinion.

  2. Who gets better training? who doesn't have to apply for DHS grants for training and equipment? who doesn't have to worry about the municipal tax base being hit by recessions, cuts in aid from the state legislature, etc.?

Is there a major municipal police force that hasn't sustained cuts in force level or funding in the past six years?

As an aside, isn't that really pathetic? Maybe the entire purpose of DHS should be funding, training and equipping municipal PDs and Sheriff's depts rather than equipping Federal Marshals with MRAPs and Gucci gear? Acting as sort of an quartermaster/Inspector General for local law enforcement capability at decentralized level?

    1. negative Paralus. personal physical fitness is a personal decision. if you're a leo and you don't think enough to keep yourself in shape and ready for the fight then you can't help yourself much less the public. as far as DHS organization, the more i think about it the more i think that it was really just a reshuffling of the deck chairs with a fancy name applied. the agencies that were solid before are still solid. Coast Guard. the agencies that were basket cases are still basket cases. ATF. in all of those agencies good and bad you have good and bad people. that's not the point of this one though. the point was really the case of application of theory to a real life incident. this picture should readily illustrate the difference between those that play at the work and those that approach it professionally. its not a matter of gear. its a matter of professionalism.

i didn't want to go there but you're forcing my hand. boston swat has gear enough to go out and buy underarmor under garments. has money enough to buy oakley gloves with the impact protecting knuckles...has money enough to sport other gear but doesnt' have the time to adjust his drop down holster straps properly? is obviously wearing armor underneath his webbing but doesn't have the needed gear attached to his armor? the guy is a mess. even his holster looks like it hasn't been properly maintained, the leather looks cracked weathered and worn. i believe in wearing gear out but i also believe in maintainig it. that holster hasn't seem any care in a long time.

  3. SWAT guys dress up so tacticool and both SWAT and FBI went with militarized looks ,i see no purpose of police forces militarizing

SEK guys come in jeans and huge helmets but i would count more on all involved (hostages, kidnapers, bystanders etc) surviving their rescue than with any SWAT team ,also for what is basically point blank shooting 9mm submachine gun is more than enough no need for a .556.
