The US Army is trying to get amphibious?

  1. no flaks, no kevlars, and none that can be seen in the boat (I understand the desire not to drown). Looks PR-ish

  2. Basically the same stuff our CDN infateers do on their basic infantry course.

  3. They had those "waterborne" guys in the Army's Jungle Warfare Training Center, Ft Sherman Panama. When we did the Jungle Warfare School there they taught Boats Ops as part of the corse.

Basic shit for us Marine Grunts but I guess for them Ranger type shit

    1. yeah i agree, but what gets me is the "bravado" that the guy had...like what he was doing was something special.

  4. Pardon my ignorance here, but how complicated can riding on a boat be? You guys make it sound super difficult, like Marines ride water ski into combat or something.

    1. hmmm. little experience with even rudimentary water ops i'd guess. ok consider this. the load that you carry on the march has to be made water proof, has to be made buoyancy neutral (or better yet provide positive buoyancy), your weapon needs to be carried in such a way that its ready for immediate action once you're out of the water or in an oh shit moment ready to fire while in the water, you have to have drills established for people falling over board, drills on how water borne navigation, you have to be able to swim with all that shit (or at least in your combat gear) and finally you have to gear that is at worst RELATIVELy quick drying or you're going to lose people to illness if you're conducting ops during winter.

it might be simple but it takes practice.
