This is one of the dumber ideas NASA's had, unfortunately. Private industry's already set its sights on asteroid mining. So NASA is going to waste a bundle on a redundant mission. And besides that, one of the justifications of the mission is to prepare the way for a mission to Mars despite the fact there are already two privately funded missions in the pipeline, one a flyby and one settlement. Maybe those don't have a chance in hell anytime soon. But that's as much chance as NASA doing it.
