Thanks David for the link.

Aug 18 (Reuters) - Lockheed Martin Corp said on Sunday it would continue to work with the U.S. government on South Korea's huge fighter jet competition, despite reports that the firm's F-35 had been eliminated due to its high cost leaving only Boeing Co's F-15 in the running.
"Lockheed Martin has not received an official notification from the Republic of Korea regarding the results of the price bidding for the F-X Program," the company said in a statement.
"The F-X source selection process has multiple phases and we will continue to work closely with the U.S. government as they offer the F-35 to Korea," it said.

  1. On the flip side of that, in sales, there are winners and losers. Just the way it is. However you can't win if you were never in the deal in the first place. So LM has done their part. They competed. With that, it will be interesting to see how this pans out. It isn't over until it is over.

    1. you can be clearer than that Eric. what you really mean is that LM is depending on the US government to pressure the S. Koreans into buying the F-35.

if that means threatening, pressuring, lying, stealing...it doesn't matter as long as they get S. Korea to buy the plane to get some momentum before someone in the US Congress wakes up to the fact that we're about to eviscerate our military to pay for one airplane.

  2. I posted this in a different threat, but this might be more appropriate.

I don't think American contractors realize just how lean the next decade is going to be.

    I saw this yesterday:

Notice in the article which contractors they are talking about. Serbia, Turkish, UAE, South African companies, in partnership with Colt or the Swiss B&T. Not General Dynamics, BAe or Lockheed Martin, etc. The defense contractors that have been in the existence aren't realizing that they are competing with nation's they've only viewed as clients in the past. And their prices will be competitive because their labor costs are lower. Instead of competing with France or Germany or Italy, they will have to deal with Turkey, South Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Brazil not to mention Japan.

    1. Too bad, isn't it? The Japanese tend to be clever folk.
