  1. As soon as I saw this the first thought that popped into my head was, does everyone but us get a new vehicle now? Even Japan?

  2. Of course, this can never be exported and most likely less than 100 will be built. Oh, and it probably costs $5 million+

But it looks good during the JSDF's Media day.

    2. David,

It can be exported to NATO members and NATO allies(Australia, New Zealand, Korea, etc) at the current clearance.

It shouldn't be too expensive, because it was developed for less than $200 million and cost savings were put into designs, such as a manual loading gun. However, it sacrifices armor(can only stop heavy machine gun bullets, not the rocket grenades) to keep the weight low(26 ton) to be able to be airlifted by the C-2 cargo jet. The logic behind this vehicle is a anti-landing denial mobile gun, which can quickly be transported to the enemy landing site by rail or air and line up to open fire upon an incoming enemy landing force(ie PLA, ROKMC, etc), so it is not suitable for peace-keeping missions or general ground combat, etc.

    3. you just listed the S. koreans as possibly wanting to make an opposed landing on Japanese soil. tongue in cheek or an actual concern by the politicians and not left wing citizens.

It is a well-known fact in Japan that the ROKMC would make a landing on Tsushima Islands as a bargaining chip should Japan take military action on the Liancourt Rocks.
