Great post Sol! I remember this story from a class in rotc. We had to research and give a presentation on an officer that lead by example and/or accomplished something significant, etc. A buddy of mine chose Col. Simmons. Until then I only knew very little about him. Great officer!
what kills me is that the Army doesn't glorify great warhorses like Simons. if he was a Marine we'd be talking about him in the same way we do Puller and Mattis, but in the Army he's just a footnote in their history.
that's a shame and he's not the only one worth talking about either.
