Nahal Brigade Exercise

What is up with those Israeli helmet covers?  I've always been told its to break up the outline of the helmet but really?  I mean seriously?  They don't wear camo uniforms but they go to the trouble of attempting to hide a helmet?  The Israeli's are good but that's just weird.

    1. Obvious motto: "Confusion to the Enemy !"

Jack-o-Lantern option was found to attract attention...

    2. Have any of you ever trained in the sunlight of Israel? It's called a 'mitznefet'. Supposed to be for camo but I would take the "shade" they provide every day of the week.

  3. I have been wondering similar for years now. Antiflash? NBC? Anti-IR? Whatever it is it must be light weight and head to toe.

  4. IDF wears camo, just not on every exercise.

It is a mesh oversuit typically.

Anything that blends your shape, or your helmet for that matter, into an amorphous looking blob works well. Baggy, saggy, etc., blends the best.

    1. For the desert, I prefer woolen camo...
....blending in with the goats and all...

    2. yeah, you'd need that, for sneaking up on the goats. It gets cold in the desert

    3. IDF make no use of camo. Only some small/special units and this is usually local initiative.

  5. the helmet covers in daylight make their heads look like ice cream cones....I can see how they would be very effective at night....but won't they snag on everything in a woodland environment?

  8. It's camouflage for what sticks up when grounded or in a fighting hole.
It can be molded to any shape and look like everything in the terrain, rocks, moss, cow pies (do they have cows in Israel?) I've seen a pic someplace where the idea was to spot the IDF in hides among rocks.
It is larger than a helmet and looks unlike any helmets very hard to see and is IR resistant even better.
    It's good stuff.
