ReplyDeleteSaying air-winger as an insult Solomon seems rather short-sighted. I'm sure the USMC air-wing would overstate their importance like just about everybody else in any military branch, but you know enough to know that Marine airpower is an integral part of being able to perform an amphibious operation. All of those CH-53s aren't there just to look pretty.
ReplyDeletethe wing is has been consuming a larger and larger portion of the Marine Corps budget since the cancellation of the EFV. everything coming from this Commandant has been a lie when it comes to staged purchases of equipment. we've heard that the AAV would be upgraded. still not done and not even talked about anymore. JLTV? the US Army has placed that vehicle on hold but the funny thing is that the GCE was more than happy to simply upgrade humvees as a cheaper yet effective option.
Deletemeanwhile (and yeah i'm repeating myself) we see the CH-53K going full speed ahead with an increase in purchases of that airframe. same with the AH-1Z, MV-22 and F-35. even though the ground side is getting smaller and will soon probably shrink to less than 20 infantry battalions.
it doesn't really apply to the rank and file. the officers, snco's and men of the wing are probably hard working, but HQMC is simply playing favorites with the pretty boys that never sleep in the mud and have more in common with the air force than the rest of the Marine Corps

Interesting, doing a quick Google search of active USMC helicopter squadrons and the only one that has an insignia close to that Iron Cross above comes on HMLA-169 Vipers out of MCAS Camp Pendleton.
Delete..predictable part of the 'Cover-Story' on this silent 'Tehkovah'. I hear that empty paint-cans left behind are labeled 'Made in Slobovia', meaning the plot is thicker than expected !
DeleteMeh, I wouldnt say I'm a supporter of the F-35, i'd much rather see a navalised typhoon on the new QE class carriers. I just dont think at this point they would cancel it wasting Christ knows how much cash.
