Are people numb to danger?

I was re-watching this video and I marvel at the people that are shown in it.

Forget the dead guy.

The people that are by-standing are making my head spin.  They all see weapons drawn by the police and suspect.  They all SHOULD know that they're within the cone of fire and could be hit.  They all SHOULD know that the suspect could turn, rush, and do a jail house take-down, stabbing them 50 to 60 times before they could do anything.

Yet they simply stand and watch.

Are people numb to danger these days?  Do people even recognize danger anymore?

I seriously wonder.  If the knife guy was insane then the people watching are either insane too or fools to the reality of combat.

  2. I blame YouTube.

People are sooo used to watching stuff on the internet that in real life they forget it's real. I'd think different if he was completely silent during the whole thing. I have found myself stuck in that "oh shit" trance. But he seemed completely coherent the whole time. Commenting aloud as if he were watching YouTube.

  3. Looked like Kajieme looked over his should back at the bystanders, and purposely moved to the left so that they were not in the line of fire.

I watched Spiderman 2 last week. Not a good movie, and I especially hated the final scene where Rhino and the cops are in a shooting battle, and people are lining the streets to watch. Seemed stupid and unrealistic. Guess it was just stupid, but actually realistic.
