    1. its the A4 variant. it proved superior to the M4 carbine in Afghanistan but everyone would rather be cool than deal with the fact that they're pushing soldiers to carry weapons that were first designed as an alternative to pistols for aircrew, armor crewman, officers etc...a real rifle will always outperform carbines. sorry about that but its a pet peeve of mine.

as far as the trailer i can't quite make it out. i get what the photographers are doing...focusing on subjects and sometimes doing stuff because is makes it more artful, but it does hurt with identifying things...so long answer short i have no idea...i might drop the guy a note and ask if he remembers...

    2. If only the trailer was a portable Phalanx close in weapon system. If only. Failing that I would want that as a tanekr containing some nice cool water/gatorade after an exercise like that.

On the marksman rifle, what does the US Army and Marine Corps use as a standard weapon ? Is it the A4 varient of the M16 or some modified version of the M14. I have seen many images with US troops carrying out operations with the M14.

    3. well the standard for the USMC is the M16A4 but you're seeing alot of M4's creeping in. the Army has sold its soul to the carbine. as far as the M14 is concerned it caught on as a DMR but only because they found out that the M4 lacks range. the civilian market has found that out too and you're seeing more and more mid length rifles that combine in a better package maneuverability and yet maintaining the ability to reach out.

    4. We have the M39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle (EMR), http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M39_Enhanced_Marksman_Rifle, which is extremely accurate but heavy and delicate.

The M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M27_Infantry_Automatic_Rifle, this is a variant of the HK416, and has recieved excellent reviews from the Rifleman that carry it.

    5. Crazy the the army went solely with M4 variant. Going forward the Marine should follow on with an M4 style collapsible butt stock and CHF barrel, but stay with a 20" barrel.

      Canadian Army M16 variant (C7A2)
