CMMG just revolutionized the AK.

I would love to get my hands on one of these to give it a whirl.  The concept seems good to me, I just wonder how it shoots...and if it shoots straight!

Note:  Think 1500 bucks is too much to pay for a rifle that is chambered for the AK round but has operating systems that mimic the AR-15?  Check out the pic below and tally up the costs to make it AR like....

  1. It's a mutant alright. Not to sure about it. Nice concept for shooting off x39 rounds, but for $1,500 why not get a decent AK variant and modernize it with Troy, TWS, Magpul etc components.
I still say one of the finest Commi-block weapons ever made is the Czech VZ-58. Much better design and build than the AK, looks like an AK, but damn fine weapon.

    1. maybe because by the time you've done all the upgrades to an AK you end up with a poor example of an AR! i know what the AK mafia says about them. indestructable, adequate accuracy, easy to use and clean....but every upgrade i've ever seen is an attempt to take the basic AK platform and turn it...even the Russian AK's are starting to take on AR characteristics. this is simply the end stage brought forward for the whole thing...with the added benefit of being based on a weapon i'm totally familiar with.

    2. If one is AR familiar then it would make a lot of sense. The good part is that they used typical AK x39 mags so one doesn't have to buy anything proprietary.

    3. Have to say that when I see an AK with all the "bling" on it, it looks kind of silly too. Polymer furniture with a decent butt stock, say K-var, maybe a Magpul or US Palm grip is about all one needs. For AK's I say keep it simple. Another decent mod for about $100 is to add Tech Sights, which will vastly improve the sight radius.

  2. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/11/30/review-new-cmmg-mk47-mutant/

Test by firearm blog indicates that rifle is quite accurate. 7.62x39 is a great round design and is capable of great accuracy but people often judge it by surplus ammo and cheap cobled together ak's .

In the summer i had a chance to visit Lapua factory in Finnland and as you might know Finns use russian firearm calibers for their military but thing that people do not know it that 7.62x39 rounds Lapua manufactures for the military is as close to match grade as it gets and finns being ecological military picks up and returns spent brass and Lapua reloads 7.62x39 ,but not the 7.62x54R (which by the way Lapua considers as full power round with highest accuracy potential of any all better than .308win or 6.5x55 let alone 30-06 )

  3. Far from revolutionary or even the first AR/AK hybrid to have been designed, if memory serves me KAC had a very similar weapon back in 2000.
As usual its just yet another AR manufacturer rehashing old ideas and claiming it to be the greatest firearm innovation since man first made black powder.

    2. nope the new one.
I found this on my facebook feed and thought you might like why witness 14 told a false story of what occurred. Your view this is economic may just be right.

  5. Personally, I think they went about it backwards, though it is a new approach. Others did short-stroke on a 5.56, they went the other way and did DI on a 7.62S.

I was never a fan of DI, it chokes up too easily, though that could be due to the small diameter of the gas tube. Most of the time, it's the mags that give problems, but the gas system contributes too.

  7. Will it be an unreliable version of AK ? AK mecanism is known to be reliable and now you add the AR15 mecanism, when everybody know its reliability since M16A1..

  8. By the way, here is another "mutant" AK by Black Rain Ordinance. It's more AK than AR with a modernized CNC milled AK style receiver. Was demo'd at Shot Show '13. It uses standard AK metal/polymer mags. No word on release date.

  9. Attempt to change a barrel, or even move the front sight on an AK. Report then on how superior this weapon is. The Warsaw Pact soldier was to be issued 4 mags at the FEBA as a basic loadout. He wasn't trusted with a loaded weapon anywhere else or with more ammo.

The AK's iron sights are a joke and adding any sort of scope or electronic sights is impossible without that convoluted bridge mount Ivan came up with. American companies, led by Krebs Custom, developed a railed fore end that allowed installation of a VFG, lights, or electronic sights.

It has been laughable to see the Russian photos of their latest version of the AK with American EOTech sights, Magpul stocks, and railed fore ends. ITAR, anyone...?
