PMAG D60 (60 round drum mag). Is this the mag the USMC's been looking for?

When I saw this all I could think is that Magpul did it again.

They created a MUST HAVE product that will have me THROWING my money at them.

Then I looked a little bit closer at the pic.  That's a H&K.  Could this be the mag that the USMC is looking for to finally make the M27 fit its intended role just a bit better?

The USMC's Marksmanship Unit should be looking at this poste haste!  I'm sure they could get early examples and testing at Quantico could begin immediately...or rather should begin.  This seems like a no brainer...for both the civilian and military markets.  Read about it here.

  1. How does the M27 compare to the M4 or M249 for range?

    1. Should be about the same with M4 the barrel length is 16.5 inches which is just 2 inches longer then M4/M4A1 doctrine wise the Marines stare a 550 meter point target and a 800 meter area. M4 is listed by the army as a 500 meter point target 600 meter area M249 with a 600 meter point and 800 meter Area

  2. Hey Sol all I can add to this is I want one.

Anyone else getting kicked off comments while using an Iphone?

And have you heard the Albuquerque DA is going to by pass the grand jury process and do a jury trial against the 2 officers that shot Boyd. Might be politically motivated since she is under investigation of trying to pay off a victim or witness in a theft case her son is a suspect in. Sad thing is she should have brought someone else in, because the case could be considered tainted before it every starts.

    1. i've heard about that case but quite honestly after checking into the facts i'm not sure about the guilt of the officers here...that's why i haven't commented. i'm gonna take a wait and see position on this before i go off. just being actual and factual....crazy people for some reason like to hang around military bases and i've dealt with them before. i know for a fact that some maniac that weighs 105 pounds without an ounce of muscle can take 3 guys to bring down. i've also seen those guys have all kinds of weapons on them and people get cut and cut bad because they tried to go hands on with a crazy man.

my experience with this makes me a bit slow to criticize them. it looks bad but deal with a madman just one time and you're gonna have a different view.

    3. Dude... That's.....

Anyway, question from a non American, how much does a mag like this cost? Is complicated or something similar to carry mags like this on your backpack or vest?

  3. I have never liked drum magazines, but keep them for their collectors value rather than extended mags in case SHTF. Eastern Bloc ones seem to work alright though...for drums.

Im more enthusiastic about magpul's patented quad stack magazine, which should theoretically hold 60 rounds too, but IMHO, i think it would be more reliable. I want to be wrong though. If magpul makes a reliable drum, they will make a killing.

Or a magazine (from who? god knows if i can remember) that extends "past" to the sides of the magazine well.

Speaking of magpul. Im still waiting for good AK74 mags and steel lug AKM mags.

    1. do you see how relatively compact that thing is? that's the selling point. Surefire came out with a supermag but the thing stretched from here to yonder. thats unsat. this thing sings.

    2. Im confident they can pull it off and cannot wait for what magpul has in store for the next year. If these are GTG, i will probably buy one just for the hell of it. It would be nice if somebody can actually sell a drum for the AR that actually works.

The limitations to only 30 round magazines was my original whine about the M27 too.

  4. I think they could make that thing bigger and fit 100 rounds in it. That would be something I'd like to see.

  5. Pretty cool, I wonder how the weight is on this thing? Most the time I tried to tape magazines together in training they would be pulled out by their weight when I had to move somewhere in a hurry, so I stopped doing it. Granted this was using some pretty well used m16a2 rifles but still it could be an issue.

  6. Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there an 'intended use' for the M27 and an INTENDED use?

As in it was officially bought as a replacement for the M249, but the real goal was to sneak a better version of the M16/M4 passed lawmakers and rules.

At least that is what I read, could be a myth, a lot of you guys probably are closer to the fire then me... I mainly came here because of several articles about the F35.. and saw there is a lot more interesting to read and discus.
