Chinese Marines conducting winter training.

Thanks to info-infanterie for the link...

I don't know the terrain, but does China have high altitude "plains"?  Of interest to me is how far afield the Chinese Marines are using their armor.  If this is near the Chinese-India Border then in the future we might get to see high altitude tank/IFV battles.  That would be something.

    1. look at the terrain. that looks like plains to me, and i would think Tibet. Siberia would point to issues with Russia and i don't see that happening. at least not now.

    5. Neither the Siberia by the way... also, training in one cold terrain don't negate possible use in other cold terrain.

  2. Looking at pictures of Khaan Quest 2014 Mongolia, looks like Mongolia has some hills mixed in with plains. My guess is Tibet.

  3. A search on images says that these troops belong to Shenyang military region, whose primary job is to deal with situations in North Korea.

In other word, China is sending a message to Kim Jong Un with frequent military drills that it doesn't like what Kim's doing.

  4. The only battle I know where tanks where used at very high altitudes was the Indian Pakistan war of 1947. The Indians used M3 Stuart tanks to Pakistan's great suprise. See the doco below its blast from the past time.

    1. 7 Cav to the rescue. Imagine the additional havoc had we been equiped with the 75mm Chafee. World War veterans were complete no-BS people.

    2. Agreed. WW2 Vets were total bad asses. Its a shame that successive governments in India and the people themselves have forgotten the battles fought by Indians in WW1 and WW2.
