Why are we vaccinating the entire public with a disease that has a 99.5% survival rate? What's really going on?

The above little tweet is just a little puff to highlight my own question for my readers.

This whole thing continues to NOT MAKE SENSE!

Why are we vaccinating the ENTIRE population (or trying to) for a disease that has a 99.5% survival rate?

WHY!

What's really going on with this thing?  I've looked at diseases of the past (yeah a goofy little Google search) and everything that we've had this type of response for was much more lethal OR gave debilitating injuries after having been infected.

I still contend that (giving authorities the benefit of the doubt) something serious about this disease that we HAVE NOT been told about OR we're left with the idea that just like that silliness in the Tweet says, we're being played.

Oh and spare me about the idea of saving those that are vulnerable.  You don't give the healthy a vaccine that COULD CAUSE UNKNOWN INJURY to people that aren't vulnerable to a particular disease.  You just don't do it.
