Why is the new trend to put "support weapons" on APC/IFV chassis? By support weapons I mean artillery, mortars and anti-aircraft guns/missiles.
From my chair its a waste of a platform.
Wheeled trucks/utility vehicles are more than capable of carrying this gear at a much lower cost.
The most extreme example of this trend is what I'm seeing with the Brits and the Boxer. Why would you want an artillery gun on it? Why anti-aircraft guns/missiles? An expensive vehicle carrying a weapon that can be carried on lower cost vehicle that will have the same effects and operationally similar mobility.
Money is too tight to waste these days.
