We are doing ground uavs so freaking wrong.
Let's see what's on the agenda. They're looking at ground uavs for medivac, resupply, load carrier, mine clearing, assault support etc...
What they aren't looking at ground uavs for is to kill drones...at least at the squad level. Even better if you're looking at the monster that is China then they should be tasked with killing air and ground drones!
Think about it.
We're so enamored with the clusterfuck that is the Ukraine/Russia war, so fascinated by the first person vids of aerial uavs hunting down individual soldiers that we're missing the bigger picture.
Killing an airborne threat with a rifle or shotgun?
If you're tired as fuck, wet and cold/hot, pulling bugs out of your groin area, looking out for booby traps/IEDs and scanning for enemy forces on the ground is more than enough work for the average Marine/Soldier.
Now you're adding in an aerial threat?
Get real. Packages should be built to take the load off the humans on the ground. To take away some of the pressure. To help them stay alive.
Turning to China, I can easily foresee them tossing 100 drones at an Infantry Squad. You think that rifle/shotgun fire is gonna be enough?
Someone at some level is smoking shit they shouldn't.
Bite the bullet.
If this threat is real and no other solutions are available (better solutions) then how about putting short range radars and a suitable cannon on an adequately sized ground uav and swatting those fucks from the sky before they hurt our people.
