Ya know what the crazy thing is? In this teaser at least the GCE is still looking out to sea instead of handling the ground fight. I've looked. There was only one time in the history of the Marine Corps where the Marine Corps looked to the sea instead of winning the ground fight. When? During WW2 with the Marine Defense Battalions. Wanna know what's crazier still? The organization was remarkably similar to what is being built today and attempting to be taken Marine Corps wide.
This could have been so much easier. Aviation was the perfect tool to conduct the sea battle. Take on a couple of squadrons of EA-18Gs for the electronic fight, add an extra squadron or two to the carrier mission and assign the drone mission to the Regiment to equip a dedicated company or two when necessary and be done with it.
But they thought they were being revolutionary, weren't SMART enough to get buy in from all stakeholders and basically shit the bed.
History. an unstable world and a fickle US foreign policy all get a call and the Marine Corps didn't answer the bell with this plan.
