Smith and Wesson Bodyguard at Eurosatory.

Amazing.  S&W is pushing a weapon at Eurosatory that isn't gaining much traction in the civilian or military market here in the US.

Via Janes...(Thanks CBD)
These new weapons combine the latest advancements in laser technologies with Smith & Wesson’s innovative design and manufacturing capabilities, both featuring a compact frame with an integrated laser and other new high-tech advantages. Smith & Wesson has worked closely with Insight Technology to design an integrated laser that not only improves target acquisition but also reduces the price of this technology. Thus more forces will find laser sighting systems affordable.
Compact, sleek and ergonomic, the Bodyguard 380 (right) delivers personal protection in an easy-to-carry platform. Chambered for .380 ACP, the lightweight pistol features a highstrength polymer frame with a Melonite-coated stainless steel slide and barrel. The new pistol has an overall length of 5.25in and an unloaded weight of only 11.85oz. It also features a doubleaction fire control system, which allows for rapid second-strike capability.
I'll give them credit for effort and for teaming with Insight to provide an integrated laser to help with the weapons appeal.  I don't think it'll work but we'll see.

Military-Today Firearms E-book rebroadcast.

I've posted this before but for those that missed it, I decided to post it again.  Military-Today.com has a nice catalog of modern weaponry that they work to update on a daily basis.  Highly recommended.

Defense Review on the "super mag".

David Crane of Defense Review has an outstanding write up of the next gen magazine for the Infantry Automatic Rifle.

This is a must have if this system is going to work.  I'm still not convinced and STILL believe that this is a boutique purchase to satisfy a small segment of Marine Corps leadership.

The Gunners are getting their way.

PS.

First.  The drop test that they performed was silly.  If it works then we'll know when its tested out at 29 Palms with the boys from the 7th Marine Regiment.

Second.  I can tell you what's going to happen operationally with this weapon once it hits the fleet.  Officer, SNCO's and Squad leaders are going to scoop them up and take the tracer rounds from their boys.  They're going to use this to mark targets for their Marines or as a way for them to apply suppressive fire themselves at targets of opportunity.  I guarantee SAWs will still be humped and this will be used in ways that are not being thought of at Headquarters Marine Corps.

Kel-Tec PMR 30. Hitting store shelves soon?

I despise made up "must have" items.  I have a second gen I-pod that I waited to buy and refuse to upgrade as long as this one works.

I make an exception when it comes to firearms though.  Just like not having enough money or being handsome enough, you can't have enough guns.  I want this gun!  This comment was made in a previous post on the SMG version of this weapon (its theoretical so don't expect that one anytime soon).
Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Kel-Tec PMR 30 SMG Prototype.":

finally got the skinny on when the pmr-30 will hit stores. my ffl said he ordered five and they told him they will definatly fill his order (that means to his door step ), by june 25th.So i should be shooting my pmr-30 the 26th at the latest...
OOOH  I hope he's right.

I wonder if there's a waiting list?  I better start calling my FFL buddies today....got to get in the line!

M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun System

I find this little shotgun fascinating.  It really seems like another example of re-inventing the wheel.  The Super Shorty seems to be handier, holds only one fewer round and would only have required attachment hardware for under weapon use.  Nevertheless, check out this fact sheet and follow the link to the Firearm Blog for more information.

Thai Army uses Tavor Rifles?

A Thai army soldier orders a couple to follow the directions at a road blockade in Bangkok May 20, 2010. Thai authorities restored order in Bangkok on Thursday after a night of rioting and fires that veered towards anarchy as troops took control of an encampment occupied by thousands of anti-government protesters for six weeks.
It seems that the Tavor Rifle is getting orders under the radar.  This photo of a Thai Soldier fielding this weapon is the first time I've seen anyone from their military using it.
